| Editing New Templates / Adjusting Ad Dates
Hi. I've finally got my classifieds working now and I've adjusted the installation parameters a bit too. I've created 50 or so ad categories and have descriptions set up for all of them.
But now, I've developed a short list of post-install questions.
First, where does one adjust the periods of time to run an ad? I'd like to eliminate ad periods of less than 60 days for this client and offer only 60, 120 and perhaps 180 day ad periods. Is there someplace to do that, or must I edit the database tables involved to accomplish this? If the tables must be changed, what's the name of the table containing the ad periods, please? Or is this dropdown defined in the PHP code somewhere?
Second, I created a new ad template I called announcements but now cannot figure out where to edit that template to revise it. Where does the Classifieds store its default ad templates? Also, it looks to me like there is no copy template function. Is that correct? Note: Forget this question. I just found and read your post on template editing. So I have at least a track to follow there. That should be enough.
Third, I set the base rates for all ads but could not figure out a way to propagate rates down into child ad categories. Is it true I must manually enter the base price in each category, or have I overlooked something?
Fourth, I couldn't find a way to limit the length of the ads either in characters or words. My personal site's existing classifieds program (which is written in CGI 4 years old) lets me specify the maximum number of words allowed in an ad. Does PP Classifieds support that capability?
Fifth, I can't figure out how to set font colors and sizes in an ad. I do not want to charge for those features but would like my users to be able to set font sizes, boldness and italics and colors when they enter their ad. How do I do that?
Finally, is there a user manual here somewhere that answers such questions? I thought I remembered seeing a link to the manual in the members edit-license-info page. But now, I can't seem to dope out how to get there again. I hate to take your time, Omegatron, if there is a way I can look these things up and figure them out on my own. (Note: One or two of the posts I've read seem to say there is no manual for classifieds. Is that correct?)
Thanks very much.
Best Professional Regards,
Tom Platt

Third, I set the base rates for all ads but could not figure out a way to propagate rates down into child ad categories. Is it true I must manually enter the base price in each category, or have I overlooked something? well no that is not part of this product yet although you can download this modified adm-misc.txt file and rename to php and replace yours and it should do the trick

My personal site's existing classifieds program (which is written in CGI 4 years old) lets me specify the maximum number of words allowed in an ad. Does PP Classifieds support that capability? No there is no word count or limit
Fifth, I can't figure out how to set font colors and sizes in an ad. I do not want to charge for those features but would like my users to be able to set font sizes, boldness and italics and colors when they enter their ad. How do I do that? Well those types of things require html in an an and thats a bad thing. However we do accept most normal ubbcode in there and autotranslate that
Bold italic and highlighting are extra services they can purchase

Thats the classifieds support area. Your correct in that there is no direct manual for the program yet.

I did find this thread last night after I posted this message and came back here and posted an update about that. But for some reason, my update seems to be missing this morning. Sorry.

Thanks again.

My personal site's existing classifieds program (which is written in CGI 4 years old) lets me specify the maximum number of words allowed in an ad. Does PP Classifieds support that capability? No there is no word count or limit Okay. Needless to say, this would be a nice feature to add in a future release... or better yet, a simple way to compute price using your current base price methodology that includes so many free words and a per-word add-on charge for any extra words used.
Fifth, I can't figure out how to set font colors and sizes in an ad. Bold italic and highlighting are extra services they can purchase Using the UBB code support to set colors will be just fine if that works. Thanks again.

Thanks a bunch for the zip file I've downloaded and will install it.
I tried the UBB codes and that worked fine for bolding, italics, font sizes and colors when I display the ad. But as you can see, ( http://66.221.218.52/pp-classifieds-...cat.php?cat=29) the UBB codes seem to be being ignored when ad preview is shown on the classifieds category display. Is that normal, or have I overlooked something?
