Auction starting bids

I put up a test auction on my site as an example and so users could get an idea of how to use it before making a mistake while bidding on a live auction (it's straight forward enough but for the newbies to the 'net........).

Anyway, I got the following as a response to the first bidder on the test auction:

"This is just a test auction, but this item had zero bids and a starting price of $500.00 - I tried to place a bid of $500.00 and got a error message saying I had tried to place a bid that was too low and that I needed to place a bid of at least $525.00 - I did that and was told I was the high bidder and then saw I was the only bidder... might have a small glitch in the formula or something???"

Which brings up the question; shouldn't the opening bid be accepted at the same value of the stated starting price? And is this an easy fix by updating a couple lines of code (as opposed to waiting for an upgrade)?

Thank you.

If he was the first bidder then yes he would be the only bidder and the highest bidder. Nothing wacky about that.

As far as any pricing your welcome to modify the files to suit you. In bids.php this code is in there and seems pretty fair. The minimum bids are a graduated percentage.

if ( $curprice < 10 ) $curprice += .25;
elseif ( $curprice < 50 ) $curprice += 1;
elseif ( $curprice < 100 ) $curprice += 5;
elseif ( $curprice < 500 ) $curprice += 10;
else $curprice += 25;

I'll check the bids.php but it looks pretty good as is.

To clarify the question: If I create an auction with a starting bid of $500.00 then the first bidder should be able to place a bid for $500.00 and thereby win the auction at $500.00 if no other bids are placed. If subsequent bids are placed after the initial opening bid of $500.00 they would be incremented by $25.00.

The way it is now the starting price of $500.00 can't be accepted because it automatically increments the starting price to $525.00 upon the first bid. Essentially it is making the starting bid $525.00, not $500.00 as it should be.

Thank you.
