troubles uploading after upgrade

I'm truly scratching my head

If I place an ad, and have a .gif file as an image to upload, it will post my ad, but will not show the thumbnail or any image at all.

If I place an ad and have a .jpg file as an image to upload I get this error

Error creating thumbnail! Error code: 127

Command: "/home/virtual/site2/fst/usr/bin/mogrify" -size 100x100 -quality 70 -geometry 100x100 /var/www/html/pp-classifieds/data/14/2328kami-thumb.jpg

I verified that /home/virtual/site2/fst/usr/bin/mogrify is the correct path

Would appreciate some assistance.

Error code 127 means it can not be found

Verify that your site has access to that directory and file.

We admin the server and nothing has changed in that respect. I also chown'd the file to our userid and group and that did not change anything

Why would it not give the error with a .gif file and NOT upload it either?

just to update, we switched to GD2 which elimated the problem

.gif file issue was that it was not enabled in the options, but my question is why is there not an error stating it is an unsupported file extension?
