Can someome show me how to change templates?

Hi Everyone

I am trying to create different templates for my classifieds category. Based on the original "for sale" template, there are some fields that I must add and some I must take out.

For example, to make a babysitter cateogry, I would not want a "selling price" frield, as it is a default field in the "for sale" template.

How do I customize my own templates? I have not figured out the system yet based on the add/edit templates.

Thanks

Roy

You need to hand edit an existing set of templates you need to make new templates with the next number you assigned to them say 5

uploadproduct5.tmpl showcat5.tmpl editproduct5.tmpl showproduct5.tmpl

You can use any existing set to alter and make copies from

So far I've copied the "For sale" template files and have named them uploadproduct4.tmpl showcat4.tmpl editproduct4.tmpl showproduct4.tmpl as I want to create new templates that are similar to the "For sale" templates.

I've created the relevant ad type with an ID of 4.

When I attempt to upload an advert for the new categorey I go through the upload process, choosing the type of ad, then the category, and then I get a blank page.

Viewing the adverts I have the same problem - I get a blank page when I attempt to view adds in my new category.

What have I missed out or done wrong?

Are the support guys reading these forums or are they on holiday? Two days have passed and nobody's replied to this thread.

You are counting Sunday and posting at 5am.....

You also need to copy the other files with numbers in them to create a set of templates:

editproductX.tmpl
showcatX.tmpl
showproductX.tmpl
uploadproductX.tmpl

Would be the four files you need to make a complete set for a new template.

Which is what I did on Sunday before making my posting. The four templates uploadproduct4.tmpl showcat4.tmpl editproduct4.tmpl showproduct4.tmpl are already in the templates directory.

The blank page might suggest a problem with the template file - can you PM me a link and an id to try an upload?

criscokid July 17th, 2004 07:46 AM

Hi Michael,

Have you managed to make any progress with my problem since my last PM to you?

Chuck S July 17th, 2004 08:16 AM

Well I am not Michael but I would suggest you relook at your templates and verify they are accurate and no syntax errors. Also check in the database and make sure the new template type is number 4 in the ad types table. A white screen would be caused also by creating a new template set say showproduct4.tmpl and the add type your assigning is 5

criscokid July 17th, 2004 11:53 AM

I've checked the adtypes table and can confirm the id is 4.

"relook at your templates and verify they are accurate and no syntax errors"
I copied the For Sale templates which are id 0 and renamed them so that they are id 4 as in editproduct4.tmpl, showcat4.tmpl, showproduct4.tmpl & uploadproduct4.tmpl. I haven't started to edit them yet - nothing has changed within the templates yet.

Could the permissions of the files on the server maybe have any effect?

Chuck S July 17th, 2004 11:56 AM

You have a category which is assigned to that adtype and is not a child of a parent of another ad type

You can PM me an admin login to see how you have things set up

Chuck S July 17th, 2004 03:23 PM

OKay I responded to your PM

Check permissions on the template files themselves as I am unable to access them which means permissions are not right

Also something also occured to me. You need to make sure you replicate the language files also for the new templates. There also should be a language file in the language directory for each php script with the 4 on the end containing the changed language strings

criscokid July 17th, 2004 05:31 PM

The OS is Windows Server 2003.

In a browser
http://www.scene-out.com/classifieds...adproduct.tmpl
http://www.scene-out.com/classifieds...dproduct1.tmpl
http://www.scene-out.com/classifieds...dproduct2.tmpl
http://www.scene-out.com/classifieds...dproduct3.tmpl
all give the same error message.

Replicated the language files for the new templates... and all works now :-) Thank you!!
