Error Creating Thumbnail

A user is getting the following error when trying to add a picture to his listing. I've tried a test listing myself and it worked so I'm not sure why he is getting the following error:

Error creating thumbnail! Error code: 1

Have you checked your data directory and ensured every last directory beneath it at every level is 777 permissions so files can be uploaded to them?

If I look at your category 1 which is data/1 there have been no images uploaded associated with any ad so hard to say but error code 1 is a permissions issue.

That was it. I thought I had checked that before but the large and thumbs folders weren't set to 777.
