vb integration - usergroup permissions In the Admin > Edit Category for an individual category, where usergroup permissions are set, what does this mean? "These checked usergroups can upload to this category, unless a usergroup's overall upload access is disabled." Does this mean they can or can't post ads? Or just that they can or can't upload photos? ------------ I would like some categories to be open to posting ads by certain usergroups and not others. What is the best way to set those limitations by usergroup? I have them set not at the edit category check boxes for "can upload to this category." But my test users are able to initiate ads in all categories, even if the usergroup is not checked in "can upload." |
yes the edit usergroups is the global upload switch and then if you want to fine tune and have some groups upload and others not upload you set which groups can here. |
Mary303... there is a lot of terminology in the classifieds that has not been updated from the the base photo post scripts. For the classifieds uploading product and uploading photo are the same thing from a programming standpoint. Your user groups settings are your base general settings. You set whether someone can or can not do something with those settings. When you set up a category it's like an opt-in / opt-out option. You could allow regular users to upload in user groups settings but may only want to allow them to post to certain categories. When you set up a category and are asked about user groups it allows you to basically cancel their privileges for that specific category. This is often used if it's a paid service or private viewing for a category. - Bryan |
I understand that the two replies made perfect sense to the people who wrote them. I am sorry that I am now more confused as to how to use the app. I am spending hours trying to make it work, and not making progress. Quote:
I beg your indulgence ... if each question could be answered specifically, I will understand (I hope.) Please translate to standard Webster's definitions of words - I am lost without that. The general explanations are confusing ... I did not program the app and haven't the foggiest how the terminology is different from standard Webster's definitions of the words used. If in a future upgrade you could include a translation somewhere in the Admin panel, that would probably help alot. (That would be good material for a user manual as well. :) ) If you could just specifically itemize the steps to allow a usergroup to post ads in one category, and deny the same usergroup the ability to post an ad in another category, using standard Webster's definitions for the words used (or translations to Webster's), I would be very appreciative. Where is the Edit Category permission for each usergroup to create ads in that category (yes/no)? If you could be very specific about exact wording and settings as it appears on the screen, thank you. What are the definitions of "upload" and "post" as they are used in the Admin panel, and how are they different? Particularly relating to Edit Category permissions for usergroups, and the Edit Usergroup permissions. Upload is used frequently, but it doesn't always say upload what? Photos? Or does 'upload' mean 'create ads?' Aren't photos uploaded, and ads created? From the behavior of the app I can't figure this out. Where are the permissions for upload photos (yes/no) ? In Edit Category, what exactly is meant by "Upload into this category"? Does it refer to: - uploading photos (yes/no) - creating ads (yes/no) - something else (what?) In certain categories I have some usergroups not checked for "Upload into this category", but users in that usergroup can still create ads (with and without uploaded photos) in that category. In Edit Usergroup, one of the permissions is "upload ads." Doesn't that mean "create ads?" With or without a photo? Are you saying that throughout the Admin panel, "product" = "photo"? "Product" does not mean ad for the product (the thing being sold)? It seems that "product" in the admin panel doesn't seem to mean what "product" means at my work. I am very lost on what is meant when that word is appearing. Quote:
Sorry, but without the translation to Webster's definitions, nothing is working the way I thought I had set it to work. I should be launching this to the forum now ... but in fact I don't seem to be close to figuring out the settings. |
The settings work as they are explained the edit usergroups function sets global permissions. You can under edit categories in admin fine tune the settings by specifying individually which groups can do certain permissions to individual categories. Now my suggestion since I see something wrong in the code where it is using the viewing perm not the uploading perm is edit the pp-inc.php line 2447 that the line I have bolded below appears as I am trying it as there is a slight variation. Code: Content visible to verified customers only. |
You aren't going to answer my questions? I did not understand the explanation ... was that not clear? I was specific about what I don't understand, and what questions I would like to have answered? Frankly I am unable to use the app until I understand the definitions I asked about. I have absolutely no idea what to do about the coding or what that meant ... I'm not a programmer. :) |
I believe all replies where very clear that you got so I do not see what your not understanding. Let's go through it once more and hopefully you will understand. In admin => edit usergroups you set the overall global permissions for each usergroup. This should be self explanatory. In admin => edit categories you can set where your speaking about a more in depth permissions structure on which usergroups can view that specific category, upload ads, post comments and have content watermarked for each category. I do not know how easier to explain it as thats as about plain as it gets explaning things. As I posted there is a typo in the code as I posted above where the viewing permissions was being used not upload permissions and I suggested where to edit a file to fix the issue on your site. You can redownload the code and upload the pp-inc.php if thats easier for you. |
