Search custom fields

Is this possible? I have an automotive forum and have custom fields like

body style (sedan/wagon/convertible
fuel type (gasoline/diesel)
transmission type (automatic/manual)

For example, I would like to search within a category for a sedan/diesel/manual transmission. Is this possible in the current software? I only found the Search where you can search by keywords but not by specific custom fields.

If your asking if additional extra fields are searchable no they are not. The main six extra fields are searchable just not the additional ones.

You are confined by the program operation and most programs are not going to operate as you wish 100% so it is normal to find issues like this.

Would it be difficult to make a mod for this? This would be very important for my site and I wouldn't even mind paying someone for it.

Feel free to post in the mod corner outside support if you wish to discuss with other users something like this. The way this feature is done with stuff stored in arrays in multiple tables I know of no real way to do this. We added along time ago the ability to create unlimited category extra fields but since this data is not stored in the actual products table which is how a search normally works searching a specific product field for data searching for this data is not possible.
