Ad cost and duration

With the default setup... with payment for placing an ad in place.

Lets say a user wants to place an ad, and we charge $1 to do so.

The user creates the ad, sets the number of items to 5 and runs it for 90 days.

He will get charged $5.

Questions:

1. Will the ad run for 90 days no matter what happens?
2. Will the ad run for 90 days per item (450 days)?
3. When 1 of the 5 sells, and there are 4 left .. does the 90 days start over again?

I am wondering this .. because if it costs 5 times the price to place the ad, I would hope it runs 5 times as long (or until all the items sell out of course).

If not, I am not seeing the point of being able to list multiple items in 1 ad placement. It would be cheaper and make more sense to do 1 at a time, and renew each time one sells.

Quantity will mean yes he will get charged $5.00

Duration does not start over the payment is essentially to post the ad on your site for that time frame. There is no guarantee he will sell anything. If he wants to renew for another 90 days he would need to pay again. Now if he has quantities and one sells I do beleive it looks like we do bump the duration back up to whatever it was.

OK - so just to clarify.

He paid $5 for 5 items to run for 90 days.

If nothing sells, it is over in 90 days. He paid $5 for an ad that he could have paid $1 for.

If an item sells after 40 days, the remaining 4 items will remain for another 90 days?

If he had just placed the ad for 1 item, it would have only cost $1 instead of $5.

The logic seems a little strange to me. Do you understand my point here? I just want to make sure about this.

Realistically, if this doesn't extend the time for the number of items, it would never be worth it for a user to list multiple items, or, chances are, they will pay more for the ad. They could just list it 1 at a time and keep renewing as they sell.

I would think this would be an issue with everyone's classified ads. Am I really the only person to ever bring this up? (just curious)

No if nothing sells he just has to be the initial charge $1 On resell quantity does not take priority as he has already paid for that. He is only renewing the duration.

Yes if a quantity sells he does get an added benefit of boosting his duration. A benefit for the user for paying you extra for quantities.

This all makes perfect rational sense to me as it takes into account both the admin of the site as well as the user. You charge a fixed cost for a duration on a category. A user pays the fee. If he happens to post quantities you get the added benefit of more cash upfront and the user gets the benefit of his quantities he paid you for if one sells of boosting his duration cycle.

Now if nothing sells he has to be like every user posting one ad and renew his ad for your single fee. He has already paid you for the quantity already before.

I think this is probally the most fair system of doing things.

Oh! Maybe I misunderstood. I thought WHEN someone posted an ad with a quantity of 5, they paid 5 times the fee upfront. Is that not the case? (I haven't gone live yet - still setting up and testing (without paying)

No that is correct if they post multiple quantities they are charged for the multiples. What I am saying is if they have to renew the ad they only pay the renewal fee as they have already paid for the quantities.
