Category based ad durations

I have one area in my classifies where special vendors list their ongoing products. I would like the "never expires" for that category only. Is there no way to do that? I removed the never expire options long ago because too many people never come back and mark their items sold. But I would like to have it available for the one area.

No way to do that without in some way altering your code. I removed the noexpire a long time ago because too many people complained.

Well first of all, how complicated would it be for us to add it back if we want it.

Would just adding:
<option value="9999">{$pp_phrase['noexpire']}</option>

re-instate that option or is there other code that would have to be added back also?

Secondly, while it is a pain when people forget to come back and delete their ads, it is also a pain for our supporting vendors to have to renew their ads, especially when they don't get the email for some reason and have to totally re-create it.

It would be the best of both worlds if we could choose "non-expiring" based on a certain category or even a user permission type system. Is this something that would ever be considered for a future version?

I have actually considered doing a category based duration thing.

As far as adding in a no expire yes that is how you do it.

That would be a fantastic feature. Let me know if you end up needing a beta tester. I'm not even asking for anything free, I would just love to have it and be more than willing to help in any way that I can.

Chuck,
One more quick question. Is there anyway that I can go into the database or something and change the dates on my vendor ads that I don't want to expire? Can I either remove the expiration dates or change them to a crazy long value manually?

If I were to edit the specific ad and change "duration" to 9999, without adding it to the uploadproduct template, would it work?

I did not add the "no expire" option to the upload template but I did go into my database and for some of the ads that I never want to expire, I manually changed the duration to 9999. I hope that will keep them from expiring. I just don't want to give ALL members the "no expire" option. It is a pain to go in and manually change all the ones that will need changing but if it works, it is the only alternative I know of at this time.

No problem. At least it's a solution even if not the best solution. Thanks.
