How does Ad Renewal work... exactly?

I have users tell me that they get a notice to renew an ad and they click on the link in the email, but when they get to their ad they can't find any place or link to actually "renew" the ad.

Here's one such question I got today:

Quote:
I got an email message today telling me to click on a link to renew an ad on TDPRI that is about to expire. Then, I see no way to do this. Can someone explain how to "renew" an ad? Thanks.
I never really know what to tell them when they ask -- because I have no idea how it works either.

For some unknown reason the PP Classifieds application don't show when an ad is set to expire. And, I sure don't see any way to relist or renew the ad.

Could you please tell me what to tell my users about how they are to respond to the email that they receive telling them to renew their ad?

Thanks

The renew link renews the ad so that link does it when they click it.

If they view there ad that is expired there is also a renew link.

So in both instances they are given renew links.

Ok I see. I think users are expecting to:

1. Click the link in the email
2. Arrive at a page that tells them that ad has been extended
3. OR arrive at a page that offers to extend their ad and a submit button

So, just arriving at their ad feels like something is missing -- plus with no way to see when the ad expires they have no way to confirm that anything has happened.

It sure would be nice if after all this time PP Classifieds cleaned this process up and put the expiration date on regular classified ads.

There is a message when they click the link that states the ad has been renewed before they are taken to there ad.

You can try it yourself with one of your ads.

Humm, my users aren't seeing this notice. Does it remain on the screen or refresh right away to their ad. My users say they don't have any idea. Maybe it's a popup and they have them blocked????

I don't run any ads on the Classifieds system so I don't know what it does. I'll run a 3 day test ad and see what happens.

Thanks

It is the forward message that appears in a box in a page by itself right before your ad loads and after the renew action has been completed.

Quote:
Your post or edit was successful.
Thats the message currently

Try this in editproduct.php

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
change the word from success to renew if you want a more detailed message.

Thanks Chuck I'll make that logical change. Why is it set up with "success" and not "renew" as a standard part of the application??

Also, I went into sendnotice.php and changed the wording of the email. Then I set up a test 3-day ad as I mentioned earlier and got my first notice today. The changes I made in sendnotice.php were not reflected in the email I received.

Is there somewhere else I need to change the email wording for the expiration notice? The formating on that email is also very lacking:

Quote:
TDPRI, your ad on tdpri.com for Test Ad, please ignore is going to expire in 2 days. If you have not sold your product and wish to renew your ad for an additional 3 days, please click on the link below: Login - Guitars and Gear For Sale If you have sold your item, please let us know by clicking on this link: Login - Guitars and Gear For Sale Thank you!
It looks pretty ugly as emails go.

I have had members not see the renew either.
Not because it wasn't there. They just didn't read.

How can I as an admin extend their ad without using the link sent to them?

You should see it as well I think under the product options when viewing the ad.

Could it be an admin option?

IT IS THERE plain as day.

Your ad is active. When the ad is active the option reads SOLD IT. when it is expired the option says RELIST AD.

Got it.
A member was telling me to extend the ad.
So there is no way to extend an ad prior to it expiring?

How can the user or the admin specify the number of day to renew? I don't see option to specify day to renew or the duration, except during post ads there's an option that say duration for ads, how about renewal duration? Where can the admin or the user specify the number of days to renew? If say default renewal link is 15 days, how can user change the renewal link to 7 days or 30 days?

*Please ignore above question, I've found the answer here:
Can I add to Edit Ad function?

The ad is renewed for the same duration a user specified when creating the ad. Above and beyond that would require you to alter coding.
