Moving Classifieds Out to Own Domain Ok, so, my classifieds are a pretty big hit and I want to expand them. However, I must do this by moving them to an external domain. Here's what I need to do, and was hoping someone could help me figure out how to do it correctly. Currently, my classifieds are at: I want to move them to: Here's what I tried: 1 - Installed a new (fresh) version of vbClassifieds at datsunclassifieds.com with a new database 2 - Exported the database from classicZcars.com 3 - Imported the database to datsunclassifieds.com 4 - Opened the admin page at datsunclassifieds.com, tried to change all the config settings. However, when I did this, it broke my classicZcars.com settings. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Can you help me? Oh, I also want to continue using the USER database located at classicZcars.com without creating a new user database. Thanks in advance. Mike |
Since you wrote this I thought you where the last person I would be giving directions to http://www.photopost.com/forum/photo...rectories.html Move your files and database to the new server set permissions etc all relative to a new install. Then run your install script and install into the same database you restored to this new server that way you do not lose data and only your info is updated to reflect the new server That should get you setup right. |
Haha, oh man... Can't believe I forgot about that post. I was actually doing everything right, except, in my case the domain name changed. I didn't think to create a duplicate database and install new over the top of it. I was doing it backward --> creating the database, installing a new version of classifieds, and then loading the old database into the new one. It was also different because the gallery changed folders as well (is now in the root domain). Anyway, this time the cookie issue stumped me. Because the setting is actually inside the database, it wasn't working on my new domain. I couldn't change it, either because I couldn't log in. So, I had to use phpMyAdmin to open the table and modify the domain setting manually. |
Here was my final steps to get this done right: 1 - Exported the database from classicZcars.com 2 - Imported the database to datsunclassifieds.com 3 - Ran the installer to install a new version of vbClassifieds at datsunclassifieds.com (making sure that my table prefix is the same as the old site) -- saw a lot of errors saying that table is not empty (this is normal) 4 - Edited the table "settings" value (setting183) domain_path to match my new domain name (changed from .classiczcars.com to .datsunclassifieds.com) 5 - Open the admin page, log in, and change settings. |
Yep that sounds about right |
