Transition from Development to Production environment?

Hi Chuck … :)

As you know, we've been testing Photopost Classifieds on our vb4 development server, with it installed under /devforum/pp-classifieds.

We're going to upgrade our vb3 live production server in about 30 days to vb4. Currently, there is no Photopost Classifieds running there.

So, we've done a LOT of work and so have you in helping us understand, set up categories and in some case patch templates, in order to get a useful and functional Photopost Classifieds environment running as integrated as possible on our vb4 development server.

The day we upgrade the production vb3 live server to vb4, of course I'd like to bring the new Photopost Classifieds live for our 12,000+ members, which replaces the current vBClassfieds software which will be obsolete.

To save a lot of time and to make sure we don't screw up anything, what would be the simplest steps for us to move /devforum/pp-classifieds to /liveforum/--pp-classfieds, in order to preserve ALL the dozens of hours of work we've done?

Also, once started up, we would want to reset all the Classifieds testing values (ad-counts and ads themselves) etc to be fresh.

Can you provide guidance for this?

Thanks for you help ..

Regards,
Doug

well the easiest way would be to move the files and database tables and do a reinstall. As long as you install into the same database tables you wont delete anything and your paths urls will be updated.

Thanks Chuck .... :)

I'm not sure I have the skills for that ... :(

Is it possible to contract you (fee for service) to do that move for us when we get to that point in about 30 days?

Thanks ...

Regards,
Doug

well your dev site and main site all are the same server right?

Badger May 18th, 2010 08:39 AM

Yes Sir ... :)

The /devforum is simply a subdirectory of the /mainforum.

Doug

Thats simply to move and redo just an install service $59.00 purchased from our online store.

That's excellent Chuck... thank you ... :)

I'll wait until we get a closer to set the exact cut-over date, but it will probably be 30-45 days.

Appreciate your help and it will be nice to preserve a lot of the development work for the Classifieds section and transition it into the production environment.

Regards,
Doug

Hi Chuck ... :)

I'd like to target Thursday July 1st to go "live" as it's Canada Day up here.

Does that date work for you?

Regards,
Doug

I do installs whenever customer service sends me them within a day or so so its really up to you whenever you purchase the install we will do it.

I just wanted to make sure it was a convenient time for you. I'll place the order as the time draws closer...
