Thumbnails not all appearing in advert.

Hi chuck,

A few of our users have been experiencing the same problem. They add/upload a number of thumbnails in an advert, however, only the first image is visible once they submit and view the finished ad.

When I click 'edit it' i can clearly see the images are there and appear to have been added correctly. Can you help?

Here is a link to one of the ads in question:

i've also noticed there's no supersized function on these particular ads. don't know if that helps. the images in question seem to be very small resolution, too. just trying to give you all the info i have.

My test server is down right now. I dont see any issues with the default code so not sure if this is a result of how you have your upload settings set. You can wait for me to get my test server up to show you how it should be or you can sent through the contact us link a url and admin login for me to check out your settings

thanks for the feedback,

yes, i've tried the rebuild thumb option already but unfortunately still no joy.

like i said, the images appear to be there when you go Edit It however, only one appears once the ad is live.

chuck, i've sent you all the details you requested to the Contact Us address. our watermarks are also a little out of whack (sometimes appearing large across the image, other times really small). I think both issues may be linked to image size settings.

thanks again for the reply.

Hey Chuck,

I'm still having huge issue with people uploading images to our classifieds page.

I'd say 50% of people are still struggling to upload them correctly. Here is a grab to show what they're doing. i can't even work out where they're going wrong but somehow they're uploading the file name so it runs across all the thumbnail boxes and it tricks the programme into thinking the advert does have an image (when it doesn't) so the ad ends up the feature header bar (with a no thumbnail mark).

any help would be much appreciated.

Main Index - PhotoPost Classifieds

I am not seeing any issues here.

I also never recieved any emails in our helpdesk that I remember as all emails recieved have been replied to.

Now some background info would help here.

1. what processor are you using?

2. how much memory are you using in PHP?

For example if your using GD2 have you tried using Imagemagick? Like that screen to me looks like your server is whacking out from a picture upload most likely using GD2 on a large image.

Do a test you upload 9 smaller pictures and see if things work. You can then progress forward and try with larger pictures.

Chuck,

We were using GD2, so we switched to ImageMagick, did some testing and discovered that the error happens when a user tries to upload a massive file. So we went into the admin and turned OFF the option that asks: "If product upload width or height exceeds maximums, resize upload down to max dimensions?" We assumed that meant that rather than try to resize, it would give the user an error message saying their picture was too big. Clearly the server Imagemagick or GD2, can't handle resizing a 4MB file if they try to upload one. We're at a loss of what to do now. We'd be happy with simply an error message, rather than a corrupted Ad being placed.

Here are our PHP settings on our server:
120 seconds of CPU time
100MB of RAM usage
36 processes per node

but we aren't getting 500 Errors, so it couldn't be that we're running out of memory.

well I would be happy to look at how you have your settings set up. I dont think I have heard anyone complain about Imagemagick. GD is very well known for having hiccups uploading large files.

Thanks Chuck,

You should still hold all our log-in details, they were sent in a email to the helpdesk last week linked to this thread and the watermark issues. Please let us know if you need us to resent it.

Feel free to take a look at our settings. We're pleased with the system as a whole, just a few teething problems as expected I guess.

Cheers.

I saw your test post, Chuck. The site works fine if someone uploads a small enough image. I created another ad, so you can see what happens if someone tries to upload a 2.6MB image. We can't expect every user to know not to try to upload a huge file.

So if you login again as admin, and click to edit my new test ad you can see what's happening per the screenshot above. It's spreading the name of that one huge file out over the whole list of thumbnails... one letter for each thumbnail. Then the ad becomes corrupted and you can only upload one photo, no more.
