What threshold does the max ads number impose?

Is if the maximum ads a user can have active? If so, does deleting an add free up a space?
Is if the maximum ads a user can have over a given time period?
Is it the maximum ads a user can have cumulatively?

The scenario that I'm investigating is that I'd like to give usergroup X, some number of free ads per year and then allow them to buy them as necessary.

The max ads is the number of active ads a user may have at any one time so its cumlative
and deleting ads will free that up.

Free ads works on the same premise it is the cumlative total of free ads they are allowed and anything equal or over that will require payment as determined by your site.

So I could set a max of, say 10, and a free of 5. On ad 6 they'd have to pay, right?

Am I also correct in assuming that the sendnotice cron handles the deletes?

Yes your assumption would be correct that on ad 6 they would need to pay if you have amounts set to pay for that category they are posting in sure.

sendnotice handles the expiration of ads because users have time to renew ads that are going to expire which that script sends emails for and expired ads it expires. Now once you go to your admin panel ads expired over 2 weeks are deleted in the background.

Is there any way to make that deletion a cron job or is it tied to an admin account hitting the page? It'd sure be nice if that was automatic.

well sure you could possibly make a new file like this maybe call it ads_delete.php

you could setup that new file as a cron task
