Show ALL ads across specific categories

I thought this should work:

mysite.com/showcat.php?mcats=2,3,4,5

But it doesn't. Is there a way to create a link (or button) which will show all active ads across a certain selection of categories? I'm happy to do a bit of code hacking if you have any suggestions? Or perhaps Chuck knows?

Thanks but you need to test it with more ads, it seems to cut off at two pages, even if you try and increase the limit.

Here's an example, use 3 IDs

ViperAlley Classifieds - All Ads - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

...and result has 36 pages.

Then take off an ID, so just 2 IDs

ViperAlley Classifieds - All Ads - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

...and still 36 pages.

Not sure what you mean by cut off. You would actually have to show an example as this is discussion on possibly code modification. The search script is meant to actually be used through the site so circumventing the program operation may produce undesired results.

Please refer to the example above your post, as you can see it's ignoring the IDs after the first one, as removing/adding one has no effect on the results.

Like states try using the search script as it was designed. You need to have a search criteria. Enter a search word.

there is no way really within the program to show multi categories of ads.

Otherwise all your doing is tweaking certain aspects hoping for the result you want but thats not how it really works.

Sure, but in your post above you said it worked and you gave a link to your site. But the reality is that it doesn't work via a link only?

It works to a degree meaning you can call all ads.

I am merely saying that there is no real function in the program for what you want. Your calling one variable in a search function which is why your not able to really change it. The showcat script is used to display search results and to display results from a category.

Essentially what your doing is calling this script variable which shows all ads.

ViperAlley Classifieds - All Ads - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

mcats is only used on a search which is done from our search page.

Ok thanks for the reply.

In terms of coding, would it be easy to write something that says

cat=all&exc=1,4,7 (i.e. show all ads, apart from those in cat 1, 4 and 7)

Any pointers ideas? Thanks Chuck

I guess you would have to dive in and take a look at the code to see what would be involved. Me personally this has not been something I have looked at.
