File being edited: /path/to/php/headtags.htm

Warning: This file does not exist or is not writable; when you submit this form we will attempt to create this file.
If we are unable to do so (check your path and permissions), then we will notify you of the error.

You need to place the proper server path to a header and footer file where asked in global options for a header and footer and save that. you just make sure those files are writable 666 permissions on the server and then you should be able to edit them via the links in admin for edit header and edit footer.

To include an HTML file as the header, enter the full path. /path/to/php/header.htm

Full path to the Footer include file
To include an HTML file as the footer, enter the full path. /path/to/php/footer.htm

my footerhtm is 666

/path/to/php/footer.htm

That is not a valid path

Your server path only you know but for example

/var/www/html/photopost/header.htm

That is an example path.

Piggybacking on your thread :)

So I am having the same problem that the original poster was having. Having read this post through I am unsure where my problem lies. Both my header and footer.htm are reading 666. The admin panel even brings up the code in them when I go to the edit header or footer option. However whenever I try to save it still gives me the unable to create or fix permissions message. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

If you hit edit header edit footer and it brings up the proper code then your path is correct and your permissions however are not. Those files can not be 666 if you get that error. They need to be READ WRITE permissions for all.

Upon further review both the header and footer are definitely 666. I am not sure where to go from here. When I get home from work tonight I will call the fine folks and 1and1 to see if there is a connection issue of some kind. Any other suggestions before then would be appreciated though. Thanks for the replies. And my other issue is still unresolved also, woah is me.

You can try setting the files at 777 to see if that works but if you cant write to it either the path or permissions are the issue.

Hmmm

Still no joy and the fine folks at 1and1 had no answer for me. Are there any other changes that need to be made related to headers and footers besides their respective html access? Also to verify the correct file path, if my file is in my classifieds folder then the path would look like this

http://www.example.com/classifieds/header.htm?

Thanks again for the help.

That is a url not a server path. You need to use server path to the actual file.

Try this in global settings it will be like this,,, /home/yourmysql/public_html/yourdomain.com/header.htm,,, then make sure your settings are 755 or 777 mine worked with 755 but i have a different host then you.

666 is writable. 777 is writable and executeable.

666 should work fine.
