I see the setting for maximum file upload is

Maximum PHP file upload size? 1024
this I asume is the kb size.

Is there no maximum size in pixels as in photpost?

You can set a maximum preview size on showphoto dimension and then a max dimension for the supersize images as noted under thumbnail settings.
