Importing data from a file?

Regarding photopost classifieds, or reviewpost, do you think its possible in any way to import a sql file or csv file of data into the software?

I have a file of listings (such as hotels) that contains about 12000 listings that I wanted to know if i could import.

Basically it would be Name, address, zip, state, description. I realize this may not be easy or free, but if it can be done, I want to find out the details.

Anything like this possible? I can provide a sample of the file if that would help, but I would rather do this offline/PM.

Is there a demo online that I can use to test out some features, other using viperalley?

Thanks,
Todd

Yes you can import a csv excel file into the database through phpmyadmin or any other database viewer in your hosting control panel if you format that data to match to the table fields.

I will need to look up some old emails and will post back. I did a classifieds test a while back and have the urls in some old emails of a site we setup for people to play with.

Ok, thanks, if you find a demo I would like to see it.

Here is a sample file to help shed some light. This of course could be trimmed or modifed however need be, but there is 11,000 records, so hopefully not too much editing.

I have uploaded the file here for you to see. I have this in .sql and xls formats, but I dont know how to modify the .sql format.

I just want to be able to setup photopost with the necessary areas like,
Name, State, Telephone, zip code etc.. and then have the spreadsheet match that, and import it.

So hopefully in the end I will have all 11,000 listings and searchable by zip, state, etc..

The thing is, I wont be using this for classified type listings, but for campground listings. I wanted a searchable database of campgrounds for my members. The reason for choosing a classifieds software is because I want owners to be able to pay a fee, upload a listing, renew it, etc... I want it as automated as possible, and classifieds software provides that.

The ones I am importing will only be basic listings, no pics, website, etc.. they are just there to benefit my members.

I am torn between reviewpost and photopost class, because they both offer something I want. Is there any way to to have both in one? I want the pay/post feature, and I wanted members to be able to review campgrounds. So is there a way to allow reviewpost to be a pay per listing, or is there a way to add reviews to photopost classifieds?

If this is possible, but not free, please let me know if its something you could/would do and a rough estimate. A site called campout.com is a great example of I am looking for. They use reviewpost I think and you can add a campground, and review them, comment etc.. That is what I want, with the addition of paying for the added campground.

Last quetion, could this work with your system? The imported listings would need to be non expiring ads, just tied to any account (same account). But I would want these to never "expire" or have a way to easily keep them all active.

Thanks for all the help, I hope to get this going soon, just got to determine what will work best.

well the only product that has a payment system is classifieds. I am unavailable currently for any additional work as product support and the new classifieds beta I am working on is taking all my time. Basically what you need to do is do a dump of our products table to determine the proper number of fields and then create a csv file or txt file with the proper number of files with fields separated by commas and place your data fields in the proper places like title description etc and you can use phpmyadmin to insert the csv or text doc to the products table. The only docs I know of if there are any would be in phpmyadmin site

ok, thanks. So is there any way to get reviews in photpost class? Where a listing could be reviewed, like reviewpost listings?

Photopost classifieds has comments much like the gallery software photopost pro.

Reviewpost offers a bit more options like additional fields you can define for reviews per category much like the additional fields in categories all products share but there is no payment system as it is a product review software.
