Seperating Auctions from Normal For Sale

Hi just wondering how I would go about making dedicated auction and for sale sections.
Currently when a user submits a new Ad you have a option to make it a auction, I like to have it so you can just select Ad type as auction and have auctions in there own category.
Cheers in advance.

well there is nothing you can do to to the process of how ads are placed. I would suggest you create different categories and separate things out. Mark in Edit Categories in admin that only those cats under your auction portion are able to have bidding(auctions).

No problems dividing the categories into two sections and setting whether users can bid or not on the respective cats should divide and keep things tidy for you.

Yeah I've done that but is there anyway to make it so users dont have to tick the box just automatically creates a auction?

In uploadproduct.tmpl find:

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
After value="1" add checked="checked"

Save it. It is now checked by default.

Yes one can do that although I would suspect on alot of peoples sites they would try to post an ad and forget about that and end up with an auction.

Since you advised him to do that, this would be the perfect solution for him. It would be safe to speculate that if he did what you said, which he said he has, then one set of categories has bidding disabled and the other has it enabled.

Using the template edit I posted, the cats with the enabled bidding will have it checked. (The other won't even show the bid box.)

This isn't for everyone else, this is in response to this thread and this user.

If another person reads this thread and implements this modification, they would have had to read this thread and realize it will check the box by default. If they implement it on a site where they accept both bid and non bid items in the same cat, that would be of their own stupidity don't you think? It's pretty clear what this does.
