How to remove date column from showcatergory ?

edit your showcat template and remove these lines.

How do I remove the last post column in the classifieds so it doesn't display on the index, cat & sub cat pages? I tried the steps posted here but didn't see any change.

This will remove the date column from the showcat pages.

Removing it from the categories template would be a different template categories template

If you remove the column from there you would remove the link to go to the latest ad.
