Sold Ads question

Hi,

I have my sold ads set to drop off after 30 days, however they stay there forever, same with my closed auctions (unsold or sold) they too stay forever.

I removed some manually but members got emails saying they were deleted due to problems etc... ( standard deletion email)

Is there a way for the closed and sold to delete out of the system automatically?

Are you running your cron task to expire ads?

Cron Job: sendnotice.php

Emails not being received for sold ads/Auctions closed

Hi everyone, having trouble with auctions and sold ads, neither buyers nor sellers are receiving emails.....

I recived this question from a seller who had auctions close with succesful winning bidders

I had someone win 2 of my auctions, but what happens when they end? Do you just pm the person and tally everything up that way? Do they get any notice that they won or do we have to keep track of all that ourselves? We contacted each other and finished up just fine but it was a bit confusing since neither of us got a notice that they ended or anything like that,

Is there a way to enable some sort of email so buyers and sellers can be notified when items sell?

Many thanks

The whole point of the sendnotice.php script is to send reminder emails about expiring ads etc and send auction winners emails and notify the seller

Have you ran the script? I do not really see any answers to my question just a new post that says people dont get email?

Please post a site url.

Chuck Ive been looking into that, but just would like some confirmation that by doing that its not going to send out all the multiple emails at the same time.
Here is the problem I had before, that you gave a fix for....
Multiple Emails the same being sent.

so yes if you are able to confirm that its not going to cause that again, that would be great.... Members were so annoyed to receive emails by the dozens...

thanks again for your help

here is my URL http://www.mlptp.net/pp-classifieds/index.php

If you have applied any fix priorly posted you should be fine. The sendnotice.php cron task must be properly setup to allow for proper ending of autions and expiration of ads in your system.

Did you or someone run your cron? Maybe someone reading this post did. That cron needs to be setup and ran daily minimum.

Thats the weird thing Chuck,,, there is noone else with Admin Access except me.... How could 200+ ads just disappear...... they are all the ones Prior to July ( which doesnt matter too much since they are old) but Yes Im wondering how they deleted themselves..... very odd....

Chuck , I havent run the cron task yet, since I wanted to test this first and didnt want members receiving multiple emails.

I ran the task manually , ie sendnotice.php in browser.

I notice that everyone who has an ad got an email to say that their ad is going to expire in 8 days, or 7 days etc... and would they like to relist.

This will drive them crazy if they are going to get one every single day...

How can I set that to take that out.... and they only receive a notice when the ad has actually expired.... not every day?

These ones I definately want:

, your auction on mlptp.net has expired. There were no bids on your item. You may want to review your auction and make adjustments before relisting.

Daily reminders that ad will expire I dont want them getting those..

your ad on mlptp.net for sale! is going to expire in 6 days. If you have not sold your product and wish to renew your ad for an additional 10 days

Can you tell me how I can omit those emails that send reminders every day the ad is still current?

I notice that in the manual task, there is

checking for ads while will expire in 3 days...

Can I change that to something else so there are no emails sent out until the ads actually expire..

Thanks again

There are no multiple emails sent. Anyone can run you sendnotice.php script through a browser. So someone reading this thread could do that.

Can I stop the emails that go out when the ads havent yet expired?

Id like only to send them out when the ads actually expire.... that send notice had them going out to everyone, like this

[your ad on mlptp.net for sale! is going to expire in 6 days. If you have not sold your product and wish to renew your ad for an additional 10 days

They dont need to know they will expire in 6 days, and will be annoyed getting an email every day an ad is running, some members have 50 ads.....LOL

Is there a way I can set this so they dont receive an email until the ad /auction is actually closed/expired? ie.. on the day of expiry

We only grab ads that expire in 3 days. You can feel free to modify your sendnotice.php script to suit your needs. I do remember there is one test you can do.

If you run sendnotice.php in the browser does it send multiple emails? If not then is it only when it is running as a cron that it does this? If so then possibly your cron task is not setup properly. I do seem to remember a few people who has issues with the cron task and had to adjust it to run right on their specific server.
