Safe mode: is it really off?

I moved my site to a virtual dedicated server, and followed my hosts instructions in order to turn off safe mode.

When I look in phpinfo, the master value is "off", but the local value is "on"... so did it really turn off? I already rebooted the server, but I still get the two conflicting messages.

It appears to me safe mode is still ON in your server. You may need to go back to your host ask if they may assist you. Basically yes your master value for the server is off but the value for your site is ON. The safe mode value is set in the php.ini file on the server and that is set to off clearly. However on sites with multiple sites usually a safe mode restriction is placed in the apache config files. Your host should be able to tell you the name of this file and where it is located. You can then flag php safe mode off there and restart the server. if we can do anything else to assist let me know.
