Can't get footer to show

OK.. I have edited the footer file /footer.htm added the full footer path in global options, and I get nothing...

When I go to edit footer in the admin CP I get this message:

Warning: This file does not exist or is not writable; when you submit this form we will attempt to create this file.
If we are unable to do so (check your path and permissions), then we will notify you of the error.

The server path you are entering could be wrong if it does not show and you need to chmod the footer file to 666 permissions via your ftp program
