Question Make "Place An Ad" Visible to Unregistered

When I was shopping for a classifieds script and looked at some of the example sites I found it was very difficult to figure out how to place an ad.

I figured it was just the way the owners decided to set things up, where you can only see the "place an ad" link if you are already logged in.

Is there a setting I am missing? It seems like this link should always be visible, but if you aren't logged in, you get an instruction page with directions to register or login first.

That's a pretty standard way for any page requiring login to work, can we do this in Classifieds?

You are only going to see the PLACE AN AD link if you allow guests to upload. You see a login or register link if your not logged in or registered. That is pretty much standard. Think of it this way. Your not going to see a post reply or post thread link on this forum unless you have permission to post a thread etc so why would you expect to see a place an ad link if you dont have permission to?

How your explaining things above is not how it works. The options someone is given are based off the permissions the admin places on the usergroups just like how a forum works.

Maybe you should try logging out of this forum and see how it works.

Because you want to let people know that they can post an ad (or reply to a thread), if they don't happen to have permission, they are instructed to login or register to achieve permission.

That is how it works on this forum and on most things that require registration.

I know exactly how the application works and have explained this thoroughly above

As stated if you do not give guests permission to post ads in classifieds they will not see it

OK, in Edit Usergroups I set Allow Posting for Unregistered to Yes.

In Edit Categories, I unchecked Unregistered in (These checked usergroups can upload to this category, unless a usergroup's overall upload access is disabled.)

What is the difference between the Upload and Post section in Edit Categories?

Anyway, this setting results in the Unregistered user seeing the "Place an Ad" clicker on the menu bar of each page, BUT it takes them nowhere. We would want to escort them off to information that would coax them to Register.

Remember, classifieds end users are not computer wizzes. In fact, you have to treat them like dummies. Who is going to write the book "PhotoPost Classifieds for Dummies" and when?

You need to have upload permissions set on in edit usergroups. You further define what they can upload to by setting the category permissions. If you do not give permission to upload to any cats they can do nothing
