60 day ads not expiring?

I have a number of ads, I only allow them to choose 60 days for the duration of the ad. Ads are not expiring, have I missed something in the setup?

Have you setup the cron task as noted in the sticky in this forum SENDNOTICE.PHP

Wow, what a mess. I have no idea how to setup a cronjob, I have contacted my host.

In the meantime, I ran the command manually.

I am stuck with the 60 day format as you don't offer options for length of ad with different pricing, so I must renew ads when expired for those that have 1 year ads with me.

So upon running the script, all the ads that were over 60 days expired, and they were gone, I found them in the expired queue for approval, so I approved them, now i go and look at them and see that most of them are showing SOLD in bold red letters and the expireds still show there too with SOLD, I thought the script was supposed to remove expired ads!

So, how do I renew ads? or do I have to re-enter them all manually?

How do I remove the bold red SOLD from ads that should be staying?

Well see here in lies the quandry of the said actions above.

A user is given the option to renew their ad not the admin in the email they are sent. Thus all the stuff to resell an ad is in editphoto so a user has to hit resell and they are given this link in the expire email for an ad sent by the cron task sendnotice.php

You can re-approve an ad through the approval screen as an admin yes but that just approves an ad. Usually in the expire que your going to be deleting ads. That que is where we place ads for you to delete them.

I have actually thought about placing a quiet delete command that would clear all expired ads every 2 weeks or month cause most admins for get to purge old ads on there system but we shall see what users want. To date we have not done this we just place them in the expired que for you to manually delete. Alot of users though have brought up the idea we should auto delete them

If you want to resell an ad you must view the ad and hit the resell link.

Thanks Chuck,

I have renewed all the required ones, I vote for an auto delete of expired ads, I think 1 or 2 weeks is good for leaving them with a SOLD tag.

Where do I find the letter for the expired email that is sent out?

Thanks,

Lance

Thanks Chuck,

How about sending a note to the admin when ads expire? That would prompt them to review ads before they autodelete.
