Putting a thumb next to cats, even if they have subcats

Hi! I may not be using the right terminology, but hopefully you will catch my drif. Hopefully I just have a setting off somewhere. I notice that a thumbnail image (or index thumb) will not be shown next to a category if that category has subcats. I find this very disturbing or bad if that is true. Some cats will let me put an image there but others won't because the image I select will only go to that subcat. Am I missing something or is there a convenient way to let me have ALL my cats show an thumbnail next to them, even if the image is a level or two deep in a subcat? You know, like a cat index thumb or something.

You need to have at least one image in a category if you want to use the catavatar thing. That is correct if there are no images to select as the category avatar you can not have one.

Hi Chuck - there are images to select for that category but they happen to be in a subcat within it. Is there some special reason why it was deemed unfavorable to not allow a thumb to be shown just because the images/ads are in a subcat? It seems like a shame, because not only does it make things more consistent in looks, it advertises, provides another form of "featuring," utilizes he image ability already inherent in the system, etc.?

The way it works is there needs to be images within that category. There are no images directly in that category hense there is no image to select.
