Step 2 of 3 Pulldown not showing up

Chuck,

I have a long list now of problems with the setup of this classified software but I'm at home atm, an my list is at work and item one listed below is quite annoying. I will post the other problems in the next day or two. Two items below.

One (1). In the admin section I have chosen to allow guests to post ads.

A guest comes along and tries to post an ad, Step 1 of 3 is fine, then you get to: "Step 2 of 3 Choose the category you wish to place your ad:"

Depending on what you chose in step 1, The pull down menu is completely blank on the step 2 of 3. I've noticed this sometimes for users who are logged in also who try to place ads. Why is this, and how to fix it?

I have the following Ad Types listed in under the admin section:

0 For Sale -- Enabled (yes)
1 Information -- Enabled (yes)
2 Personals -- Enabled (yes)
3 Wanted -- Enabled (no)
4 Help Wanted -- Enabled (no)

Two (2) From a previous post I understood that the software cannot assign pricing depending on how long an ad is posted for? Is this true?.. I may have understood incorrectly.... but, if not - I have options to have an end user list an ad for say 7, 30, 60, 90, 180, & 365 days, I *have* to charge the same price for all of these listings? That doesn't make much sense to me. I only found one spot under the Category Admin Edit section - and that is for base price.

Please let me know.

Thanks.

More info regarding item 1 in my post

I should also mention that under each catgory I have all the "usergroup access permissions" checked or "enabled"

Under UserGroup editor for Unregistered/Not Logged in, I have "allow posting" pull down menu on "yes"

Damn, figured it out.

Well, I figured out item 1 in my post. Seems like when I changed Template type order it also changed the pull down menu "template type" in each templates admin section. Ok that was easy to fix.

Is there some sort of help manual you could steer me towards? Thanks.

Chuck S April 29th, 2006 07:58 AM

If you activate a template type you will want to make sure in the categories editor that would be assigned categories to that template type otherwise yes the menu will be blank and should be blank.

The charge to post an ad varies by category not duration. You can remove whatever durations you do not want in the uploadproduct templates with the template editor.

There is no direct online manual as of yet for this software. The software started out as something Michael wrote for his own viperalley site and customers here wanted it.

Thanks for reply - & few more questions/ideas

Chuck - thanks for getting back to me so quick. Seems like you have your hands full with all the posts here... Here are a few suggestions which you may already know about and I have a few questions at the end of this past... Thanks.

1. Maybe consider an easier way to add templates instead of having to go in manually to copy files and rename them - software should create them for you

2. Posting an ad to For Sale Template from the Admin account caused my entire Vbulletin messages directory to be wiped out completely from the server - it was completely gone - this is something that should be addressed in future releases.

3. Consider making Additonal "time options" for pull down menu portal based, not template based.

4. Need to also allow time periods for the amount of time each classified is listed for - to be assigned certain prices instead of by just category - instead of only just a base price listed for every category. Ie allow for different prices for the ads based on how long they run, 7, 15, 30 days etc, not the same price for all.

5. How to change the message listed at the top of the classifieds page? In this case found here: "Welcome to the Dave's Travel Corner Classifieds!"
http://www.davestravelcorner.com/classifieds/index.php

6. Someone wants to buy a product that is listed on a particular ad - how to make it so there is a button to click on like "buy now" - and ties into say a pay pal account

7. In admin, I go into Moderate ads under "approve/bulk actions", then choose one ad to edit, and when I click on Edit Ad, a new screen pops up and there is no ad to edit. How come when it says to edit the ad, it will not let you actually edit the ad?

8. How would one go about making the "Information template" to allow for user upload of photos? Ie, make all my templates have this option. I guess that basically involves editing the code of the templates, right?

In Admin Global Options you can set your site name you have it set to Dave's Travel Corner Classifieds.

The user themselves on upload of an ad is asked whether they want people to buy it now and tells them there user email must be there paypal email.

There is no edit ad under approve only leave or delete? I am a little lost on where your at.

Yes you would need to edit templates. Easiest way is to use a program like beyond compare to compare the two different template types and see what is needed to be added ;)

RE: Your Answers

Thanks for the info on the other questions I had. Regarding item 8 below - let me clarify.

When I am logged into the Admin panel - I click on the link on the left side under the General section that says: "Approve/Bulk Actions"

Then a new screen pops up and there is a pull down menu next to the word "Category" I change the pull down menu to show one of my categories - if there are any ads posted under that category they will show up on this screen.

That is correct, there is a Delete and a Leave option here but you can also click on the hyperlink which will bring up the actual ad.

Once you do this, the ad shows up and underneat the actual ad one of the white hyperlinks is "edit ad". I click on this, the screen refreshes and there is no ad listed - only the text:

Any ideas as to why I am unable to edit the actual ad? Thanks.

Easy you have a correct php or template file. Try reuploading editproduct.php and editproduct templates.

Edit Ad

Thanks for that info - from the classifieds Zip file I reuploaded to my main classified directory the editproduct.php file

and to the template folder I uploaded the following files:

editproduct.tmpl
editproduct1.tmpl
editproduct2.tmpl
editproduct3.tmpl

I then logged back in the admin and tried to edit the ad as described in this earlier ticket and no luck - same results. Any other ideas or things I should try to get this working.

Thanks.

As stated make sure the template file is not corrupt.

Make sure your uploading in ascaii not binary

The behavior you describe means the contents of your editproduct template is empty.

RE: Custom work

Chuck - I noticed there is an option for "custom work" on this page: http://store.yahoo.com/techimo/imadin1.html

What would you charge to fix this problem we've been troubleshooting as well as change my existing templates to allow for photo upload? I may have one other custom project as well (involving a custom message that appears after every ad submission....Thanks.

I would be interested in paying someone to do this depending on price and how long it would take.

You need to make sure if you have made additional template sets that you have made all the appropriate files cause you have created an additional template and I can assume this is your issue.

http://www.photopost.com/forum/classifieds-installation-upgrades/109206-faq-how-create-additional-template-sets-classifieds.html

You should have an editproduct4.tmpl,showcat4.tmpl,uploadproduct4.tmpl and showproduct4.tmpl files.

I can quote you on any custom work if you email me with specs. Before you go trying to pay someone to fix your issue I suggest you read the link on how to create additional templates and see what you have forgotten to do.
