Some passwords do not permit the user to login

We have a user who reported for a long time the inability to log into the classifieds.

URL Login - Hunting Washington Classifieds

After reviewing his password I immediately changed my account to use the same password and was not permitted to login. To resolve the issue we changed his password.

We spoke in the open forum at our site about this matter and I would prefer to not reveal the guy's old password as he might be using it on other sites. Therefore I will first make an attempt to provide just enough for a reproduction of the issue.

Yes, we bridged our classifieds with our SimpleMachines forum.

If you login to the forum with that password are you able to be logged into the classifieds?

I do not run a smf site so I cant really respond or test here.

Actually, No. I have never been able to get the cookie settings to work properly since upgrading the forum a while back. So it seems even more likely it isn't the cookie portion of the bridge?

Your cookies are not correct

For instance you are telling your classifieds your smfcookie name is SMFCookie832 whereas it is actually SMFCookie11

You need to change the cookie to the later in classifieds so when you log into the forum your logged in classifieds

So I entered in the Administration --> Cookie settings the value SMFCookie11

Now that doesn't change the fact that the user needs to login to the forum and then to the classifieds. I am not sure how that affects the specific password issue (other than perhaps it bypasses the problem with a cookie) so I will hold off on the password issue if I can get the cookie problem to solve both matters.

You are correct my forum set the cookies to SMFCookie11 and I have left that portion in the Classifieds -> administration --> Cookie settings - value as empty in the past. But even with the change I don't see much difference in behavior.

well I would need to grab a copy of smf and setup a test site to test specific password issues. That would take awhile.

what I am saying is now that the cookies are set right when users do login they are logged into both applications whereas before they where not.

As far as certain passwords not working smf could have changed there sha1 function maybe.

The cookies if set correctly work as we have posted in the FAQ. That is a universal constant. If you want me to look at your cookie setup you would need to send an admin login through the contact us link.
