Problems with the editors not doing what they are supposed to

SIGH, another problem with the editors.

It seems that after upgrading to vbulletin 4.0.3 the editors both advanced and basic are not doing what they're supposed to be doing.

They're not putting a carriage return on blank lines unless you put 2 blank lines and it will show 1.

Bold doesn't work nor ordered or unordered list

Italics doesn't work but underline does..

I've installed the latest build and it's still doing it and my users are fed up with the back teeth with the issues that keep cropping up with the classifieds

Is there no way of incorporating the vB editor in it? at least it works!

Also a lot of the time when you resize the advanced editor the cursor goes awol but not all the time (on firefox)

The vb editor as always with any of our products shows in one and only one place it is used for comments.

I assume your referring to TinyMCE which is an external software not directly supported by our company?

Yes I am talking about the TinyMCE and the basic editor both of which worked fine under vb3.8.5.

Tbh chuck your product is next to useless without either of these editors so something needs to be done.

So are you basically telling me and my users that a blank box for an editor is the only way to go because something you have incorporated in your product is not supported?

What I am saying is as is said when the program first came out with TinyMCE. There is no direct support for that code mainly because we do not write it and there is no way for us to effect any changes to it let alone support code we do not write.

Testing Editor - PhotoPost Classifieds

See bold when I try it actually inputs the strong html tag not bold html tag. Nothing I can do thats in there coding I would think.

About the only thing I can do is view there site and see if they have an issues reported and possibly try to include the latest code from there website into our product.

You can do that as well and see if that helps

TinyMCE - Download

I am not opposed to in the future there being an option of expanding the use of the vb editor to other areas of the script but thats not something your going to say like next week.

Something really needs to be done for the good of your product as you can't rely on other sources for editors like you are as when they break like you have said you have no control over.

At least with vbulletin if you can somehow incorporate the advanced editor in your product you know they don't change the code that much so things won't break as much as they seem to be doing.

As for me reporting bugs to the editors that would be quite useless because I do not know versions or anything like that so it would be like peeing in the wind.

Wow you must be out of the loop with a comment like that. vb has lost alot of its customer base with the release of vb4 and all that flack. That is all they did was release a version that broke everything and spent the last couple months issuing 3 dot releases which fixed well over 1000 or more bugs in there flagship product.

The problem with vb as it stands right now is there is no long year long or more beta period where developers have access to the code to code things. I am probally going to be well into summer just seeing what other issues with vb4 there are let alone the fact I need to find time to code up plugins for classifieds and reviewpost like I did for Pro as I know customers want that type of stuff.

I am well aware of the problems with vb4 as I run it on a live site, unfortunately and it has taken me and my host about 3 weeks just to optimize it so the speed is reasonable. Hence why I'm now working on the classifieds to get that working properly and noticed the editor issue.

But saying that throughout running your classifieds program the only constant (apart from the editors messing up) has been the quick reply editor has always worked through vb3 and vb4 which is a positive sign that at least one of the vBulletin editors hasn't been touched much recently so perhaps the advanced editor is the same!?

I'm no programmer but thinking out loud couldn't you somehow do the uploadproduct.php in two sections.

1> How it is now but without the editor box, so input prices/title etc

Click next (this will obviously make the sql entry for the advert)

2> Up pops the vbulletin editor where you can place text for the advert?

Like I said I am not opposed to in the future seeing the possibility of expanding the vb editor but for the longest time as you know the vb editor has always been used in only one place to place comments.

It requires special templates and coding to use the editor so its not something I can just write up in a couple minutes and say try this.
