Ads changing ad types on their own ...

Simply selected "Profile" for member called "Tester" and added a single positive feedback comment to his name.

Following that, the only advert user "Tester" had placed had switched itself from being a "Business" type ad to a "For Sale" type of ad, all by itself.

See pics for validation ...

Regards,
Doug

Ads types never change.

The actual ad type is assigned PER CATEGORY which means if you move an ad you would change its type.

test upuser - PhotoPost Classifieds

I provided feedback on an ad and see no issues. The script as noted has nothing to do with the products or categories table. Feedback is its own table so no queries are ever done to change anything like your saying.

Ok, so how do I explain the pics and empirical data from them showing that that ad changed from a "Business" type to a "For Sale" type?

You can even see how the Business Ad "Listed Opinion - Poor" got picked up by the "For Sale" type and it became "Condition - Poor"...

So, for clarity Chuck, you're saying there's no way in exceuting anything in the scripts that could cause the exiting ad type to change to another ad type, except moving the ad from one category to another?

Thanks ..

Regards,
Doug

Looking at your pictures the ad is placed in a business category meaning it would be business ad

I am looking at the ad your posting and it is in the business recommendations category so its going to be whatever ad type you have that category set to.

Yup, you're correct... it's in a Business Category and the type was business as shown in the right hand pic...

It's still in Business Category and was never moved from there, but it's type changed to "For Sale" as you can see in the middle and left hand pic and the field marked Condition "poor". If I post an edit screen, it will show all of the data fields of a "For Sale" type ad.

Ok, I have a headache now and this is the least of my debugging issues to day, so maybe we'll come back to it later ..

I'll be posting a screen shortly that shows me NOT logged into vb4 (unregistered), yet when I select the Classifieds area, it welcomes me and shows me logged in as registered user name "Badger".

Regards,
Doug

The ad is not a for sale ad

The ad type comes from the template type therefore you load the correct template

The business type is made from the for sale so you may or may not have options that look the same.

I see these phrases in the editproduct4.php

Code:

Ok Chuck...

Solved this one ....

I decided I didn't want to have "unregistered" users be able to view or do anything with the ads. So, I went into the main ad category and unchecked the small boxes at the bottom of the category edit screen giving permissions.

I then noticed the "child" box (see attached pic) for what I assumed was recursive behavior of my change through the sub categories, which of course saves a lot of time editing each category.

Well, clicking that and submitting indeed unchecked ALL the sub category boxes for unregistered members, but it ALSO changed ALL the subcategories to "For Sale" ad types, which of course screwed up any existing ads.

Hence, the reason my "Business" ad above changed status without changing categories.

You know partner ... a manual would really help a lot. I feel like I'm back in the army again doing another 17 years of OJT (on job training) grinding through all the mistakes.

Regards,
Doug
