Exclamation Reserve Price overrides Open Price

Chuck,

I'd like to run an auction where the opening price is "Best Offer" or $0, but I'd like the item to have a reserve price of say $250 and a buy it now price of $350.

Currently with the new version I can't do it. Why? Because it immediately takes the Reserve price and copies that value into the opening price field. So In my example above I get an auction with an opening price of $250 and a Buy it now of $350.

The problem is that I don't know if that reserve is too high or not, we actually had an auction just like this and despite getting numerous views we got ZERO bids, I think in part to the fact that the reserve price was immediately known because it became the opening price. I would rather have had someone start bidding at say $10 and be told that they have the high bid but that they haven't reached the reserve price yet so they need to bid higher if they want to get the item in question.

This creates more excitement and more bidding and is also identical to the way Ebay works.

Any fix for this?

One other question, I also have the ReviewPost and in ReviewPost when you upload pictures and then look at a product listing you get the photos thumbnails which if you hover over them shows a magnifying glass which if you click on has an animated blow-up of the image, or you can click the supersize link. IN the Classifieds if you click on a thumbnail nothing happens, is the Classifieds broken or is it not supposed to work like ReviewPost does?

Thanks in Advance!

are you talking reserve limit or buy it now as I am not following here

The new reserve limit is not shown on showproduct AT ALL.

I am not really sure showproduct has changed at all in any regard to pricing.

The buy it now price is simply that a buy it now price. The new reslimit which is not used in showproduct is a price that says the auction can not be ended if the bids arent at least that reserve limit so that is just like ebay

The price is simply a price so if its best offer it shows as best offer.

what code you using?

Yeah I should know better than to do people favors, I originally posted the auction on behalf of another member, without telling me he went back into the listing and edited it to have a new starting price instead of best offer, so we can stand down on the bug. However there are 2 other issues I spotted after the upgrade

1) After an auction has been posted if you go back and edit it, there is no way to edit the RESERVE price, you can edit the Asking price and you can edit the Buy it Now price, but not the RESERVE price.

Now once an auction has received at least 1 bid I would argue that you shouldn't be allowed to change the RESERVE price, BUT if there are as of yet no bids then I think you should be able to edit the reserve price. Obviously if your original Reserve was say $100 and someone bid $50 you shouldn't allow the lister to go back and make the reserve $40 and now put the bidder on the hook to buy the item, that wouldn't be honest. However, if an item has no bids, then the lister should be able to go back and change the reserve price and would probably update the ad to say "new lower reserve!" or something like that.

2) the BB Codes, at least for Bold don't seem to be working. Additionally, neither do returns or any formatting, the body of the classified is just one big lump of text! Here's an example: New Hampshire Motor Speedway SCDA DE April 19 - Classifieds

Open that ad in the Edit Ad and see what the body should look like. Something is wrong.

Thanks in advance!

1. If your using the latest which is 4.01 you can.

2. Are all 3 of your vb switches in edit integration set to YES?

vB3 INTEGRATION
Do you want to enable the vB3 Integration which uses your vB3 headers, footers and styles? On
Do you want to enable the vB3 Enahnced features which use vB3 controls in PhotoPost? On
If using the Enhanced option above, do you want to enable the vB3 WYSIWYG control in Post Comments? On

Yep all 3 set to ON.

WYSIWYG editor set to Basic because other settings cause havoc with older ads on the site, or at least it did previously.

With regard to 4.01, is there a patch with just the changed files available to update 4.0 to 4.01 or do I have to go through a full file upload and run the install script again?

The 4.01 announcement as well as the documenation in the download tells you the changed files

Ok site is upgraded to 4.01 and still the body of classifieds are the same, plain text, no BB Code. What I noticed though was an ad that looked real fancy that a member posted so I went and clicked Edit Ad to look at his ad in edit mode and his add is full of HTML. Now at one time I turned on the WYSIWYG editor to advanced, but currently it is on "Basic", should I switch it to OFF to get BB Code back? or else to Advanced to let people use it even though it mucks up pre-existing ads on display?

You know Chuck with the classifieds we don't seem to have the issue of a bunch of older classifieds with BB Code in them as we do in our Articles / ReviewPost area that prevents us from running the WYSIWYG editor in advanced mode so I turned it on to advanced mode for now in our classifieds and will monitor how it goes, but it would be nice if the Basic mode supported BB Code as opposed to having to turn it off...

Well I think that the problem is when you put the editor in "Basic" mode it does NOT use the vbulletin parser, otherwise it would render BB Code correctly and it certainly doesn't. Give it a try on your site and see.

When the editor is set to basic or advanced it is looking for and parsing HTML, not BB Code.
