Members cannot sign on

Since installation of the classified script I have recieved many emails from members complaining that they cannot sign on to my forum. Is there anything that can be done about this or is it simply a cookie/cache problem?

I would suspect a user cookie issue. feel free to post a url and test user login and we will test things are set correct but my feeling is you might want to tell your users to clear all cookies from their browser and try logging in.

Thanks Chuck, could I send you login details via pm or email?

I think it must be a cookie problem since I wasn't able to login today via the forum index page, then I cleared the cookies as was able to login. Also when I logged on just now all the posts that I already read and my own posts were showing up as unread.

I'm not sure if it's anything to do with the classifieds being installed or just a coincidence that this problem began at the same time.

Thanks.

Sure sounds like a cookie issue to me as if your logged in you would know it

Fell free to pass along info to let us login and check how you have things set but yes your browser must be set to allow cookies for proper operation of the program.

I think I spoke too soon. I've just noticed that members (including myself) are signing on via my home page or forum, and then when they visit the classified section they are not logged on. I have to clear my cookies daily so I can login to the admin panel and avoid this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks

P.S. I guess this may explain why nobody has posted an advert yet except me.

Ok, there is something strange happening here. Maybe it's because I'm using a content management system, with forum and now classfieds? Maybe the three user systems are conflicting???

I created a new user 'test', and this worked ok the first time with firefox, logged in and out then had problems. I was logged in to each section of the website except classfieds.

I then tried IE browser (latest version) logged in on index page, clicked through to forum, logged in ok, then clicked to classfied, logged in ok but template did not display ie. http://www.isarapix.com/pix78/1204269656.gif and produced this error: http://www.isarapix.com/pix3/1204269689.gif

I then logged out and template then displayed correctly, and then clicked back to home page and was still logged on there.

Chuck I will send you the username details via pm if you can test from your end via firefox and IE. Many thanks.

Looks to me like your using phpbb2.

If thats the case its all about cookies you do not have them set correctly.

For example in phpbb2 if you want cookies to be set across all products using a phpbb2 cookie then set your cookie settings in phpbb2 and classifieds like this. But alas yes we need urls and signins if you expect us to help you.

cookie path /

cookie prefix phpbb2myql

cookie domain .domain.com -- replace with your domain name with period in front so cookie works on all sub domains.

cookie paths are ok within phpbb (same as above) so I'm not sure what the problem could be. The problem is not consitent, sometimes I'm logged on when entering classifieds and other times logged out, clear cookies and all is ok again. But I shouldn't need to clear cookies daily??

I am also still getting this error via IE browser http://www.isarapix.com/pix74/1204344020.gif

I will send login details via pm. Thanks for your help.

maxadNo I do not beleive thats a variable in our program weird

anyway cookies both products need to be set the same and when I logged on it worked fine as a test user. went back and forth several times. I can only suspect your cookie domain is not set like I suggested.

Thanks for setting cookies up on the classfied program for me. It appears to be working now.

I am still getting the 'maxadNo' error every time I access by IE, however there is no error displayed in Firefox. ???

Sorry to bother you again but the problem appeared again today, not for me but for one of my customers.

A customer visited my shop to say that he was unable to login and place an advert. He said that he is logged in on the home page and forum but when he enters the classified section he is not logged in.

I took down his username and password and logged on with his username on my computer. I logged in ok on the home page, entered the forum ok but when I entered the classified page I was logged off. I cleared cookies on both browsers and the problem persisted.

I opened his profile, changed is password, clicked update and then went back to the classifieds, hey presto I was logged on and could place an advert.

This leads me to believe that there may be other users out there with the same problem and are unable to login via the classified section.

Do I post on the forum to say that if members are having problems signing in to classifieds they should change their passwords to enable them to login.

This sure is a strange problem.

I do not know anything about phpbb3 to tell you but we know cookies are set correctly and the logins you provided me worked fine so maybe you have issues with users imported from your old phpbb2 but sure should like a phpbb3 issue.

I'm using phpbb2 not phpbb3, I haven't made any changes to my current system except install photopost classifieds and upgrade to the latest stable release of phpbb2.

As I said before, some members are logging in ok on the front page, remain logged in on the forum but when they access the classified page they are logged off, however when they return to the forum page they are logged in again.
