Registration activation emails

I've searched this board and have seen the suggestions to check spam filters when activation emails don't seem to be delivered to users. I've recently had quite a few users not receive their emails to activate their accounts. I've tested a couple times this morning and have not received the emails either, yet anyway. Nothing in the junk mail folder either.

Anything else I can check on to see what might be causing this? I am running PP Classifieds stand alone.

How about your web server have you seen if there are any errors in the error log?

Check with your host that the server is setup to allow php mail and your email is correct in the admin email spot in global options.

Do you get other site emails like ones where you set so the program emails you about new ads and comments?

Yes, I have been getting the admin emails when a new ad is uploaded.

I'll see what I can find out on the web server side.

Although as I'm typing, I just received one of the activation emails for the account I registered for this morning. It took about 45 minutes or an hour to arrive. Is that kind of delay normal?

My yahoo account still hasn't received it.

Seems like most of the users who have had this issue (not all, but most) have email accounts with bellsouth or yahoo. Suggestions for fixing that?

If your getting other emails from the program then it is not an email issue with the program since emails are being sent out. We use a simple mail string in php. I would suspect that their is a spam issue here either on the isp end or user end.

If I email a Yahoo address from my pp-classifieds admin email address from either my host's Web mail or my Outlook mail, it is delivered. It appears to be just the automated, system-generated emails that are being blocked.

Possibly something yahoo does not like about your isp email system? If you get emails that shows me the system works as we use the same mail strings throughout the program. It is a simple php mail command. After your server sends out the email we have no control over what is recieved. If some users get the emails and other users dont that issue points to something on their end.

Yahoo addresses receive emails if they're manual...apparently just not the script-generated ones. Is there a way to change the subject line in the email to see if that may be what Yahoo doesn't like?

You might need to contact yahoo. You can edit the emails.php file in the languages subdirectory and change the headings etc but I do not think that would be an issue. Apparently your issue is with yahoo.

Is there a way to add a return path to the email header information for the script-generated emails?

I've been researching all I can online to see what I can do to fix the problem. I read a few posts where people suggested that emails with a return-path field are flagged as spam by some filters.

For the time being, I turned off the activation email feature. Hopefully that won't cause any problems as far as junk registrations.

This is as simple as our email is. There is no return email just a from email. It is a simple email from your admin email to some user email with a subject an letter.
