Query: Move ad to dropdown...

...contains all categories regardless of the type of ad in question.

For example, assuming there are only 2 types of ads, wanted and for sale, when you create a new ad you have to select what type you want. The next screen the then limit the categories you can create the ad in based on that type. However, once created (if edit permissions are enabled) then the user has a drop down at the bottom of the ad display that allows them to move the ad somewhere else via a dropdown control. This dropdown contains all the categories available and not just the ones of the same ad type as the original.

This can all be demonstrated using the logins previously provided.

True, however at times you may need to move an ad out of one category into another; limiting the display would mean that an ad in the wrong type would have to be deleted and then readded, versus moving it and editing it.

That's true, but you also have the situation where you request different information in the for sale and wanted templates when creating the ad. If the user can then move the ad to a different category with a different ad type then some of the information may be missing and so the ad would have to be deleted anyway.

I can see the need for allowing mods/admins to move to any group (we're supposed to know what we're doing! ) but allowing users to move an ad into a category for which we have already prevented them creating that type of ad in (by setting up the ad type on that category) seems like asking for trouble to me.

Not really an answer that if I want to allow users to edit their ads as the move options appears when the edit permission is granted.

If you guys don't consider this bug significant enough to fix then I'll just do it myself. You've actually got a pretty neat product here and I was just trying to help you iron out the irretating small problems that your future customers will also encounter. Being a software developer myself I know how important useful customer feedback is.

Well I beleive the developer already answered here. I fix bugs that are considered bugs which you already know . If the developer states to edit an ad the user also has permission to move it then its not a bug. It is coded that way by design and thus not a bug.

I totally agree, but that wasn't my complaint, it was an explaination of why your suggestion of not allowing my users to move ads wasn't viable.

I can see both arguments, hence I put "Query:" in the thread title as I guessed it might have been done like that on purpose. As we have a restriction on what ads can be created in which categories then I would like to see the same restriction on the move, but if that's not how the developers intend it to work then fair enough.
