Question Relisting auctions?

There doesn't appear to be an option to relist ads that are set up as an auction. Am I just looking at this wrong or is there a good reason why there is no option to do that?

Correct with the way auctions are set they can not be relisted just the way it was developed. There are alot of automated things that take place when you end an auction so ability to change end date is not in there.

LOL I am simply answering the question and explaining how Michael has coded the program that auctions do not get relisted.

Is this still true for 2.5? Does the user have access to the ad after the auction ends? I could see someone getting really ticked if they spent a lot of time on a description if they couldn't preserve it for another run.
Thanks.

You can only relist an ad not an auction.

If the admin of the site properly has the cleanup cron task setup then the old ads should be gone.

I don't mean to be dense here, but I do need to understand this fully before deploying an "auction" site. If read the above correctly, an auction that ends looses everything, the photos, the description, any data entered about it, so long as the clean up processes are running?

On that point, wouldn't it be possible to set a flag, either at the admin level or at the ad level (let the user decide), automatically relist item or something.

The more important piece is for the user not to loose their ad information. I just don't get how automatically wiping it out makes sense.

Thank you.

The cron task expires ads and auctions. You can delete them from admin approval and view the expired que.

The user has the option to relist an ad but if he does not meaning it is sold it should be deleted. Auctions are a one time thing meaning they are posted for a specific time and they close when they are over.

The program would be properly performing as it should to get rid of old data as the content of a classifieds site should be temporary and is treated as such.

IMHO this makes using auctions almost obsolete. I can't imagine a member taking the time to create a Ad/Auction only to find out that the time they spent writing a cool, intriguing descriiption, adding in their personal photos of whatever item they are trying to sell, etc. only to loose all that data simply because the auction didn't complete successfully the first time around.
I can certainly see running a cleanup job that removes ads and auctions that have either expired or ended after a certain period of time, but I would never expect it to be immediate. Either way, there must be some way to allow the user to propagate an auction forward to a new "run" if it wasn't successful the first time and not have to re-enter all that data.
I'm surprised there hasn't been more pushback on this, or perhaps folks simply aren't deploying the acution option.
Can this go in as an enhancement request, or is there a design limitation in the auctions that prevents any kind of relisting (how about a "Copy Auction" function or something?). If so, we'll just have to let dead dogs lie.
Thank you.
