.htaccess not operating on subdirs recursively?

I have the .htaccess option enabled. The .htaccess file seems to be working fine in /gallery/files, but files uploaded to subdirs are benig hotlinked. See this thread on a different site (completly different site) http://forums.legendsofwestwood.org/...ad.php?p=70638

The first post by me (as Greebo) in that thread refers to pilotsofamerica.com/gallery/files/1/... but the second post by me refers to .../gallery/files/...

I'm told the 2nd pic is not visible to others (the image being cached on my machine) but the first one is.

What do I need to do to make the .htaccess restrictions apply to sub dirs?

Actually, it looks like this is a problem with the extensions, not the folder. You'll see that your first image has an extension of 'JPG', but the other has 'jpg'. If you'll look in your forum/admincp/vba_gallery_admin.php file for this code:

Content visible to verified customers only.

Replace it with this:

Content visible to verified customers only.

Then turn your .htaccess protection off and then back on again (to update the file) then that should take care of the problem.

I'm referring to the contents of the .htaccess file:

Obviously not. I appiled the change recommended, and it did resolve the issue.

I didn't recognize that I was changing the code that actually rewrite the .htaccess file. Thanks much.

If I may recommend a future modification: an option to have .htaccess serve up something else like a "Hot Link Rejected" graphic would be a nice extra perk.

Here is what I use:

Content visible to verified customers only.

it serves up an image.
Just use your imagination and it can be quite fun

Not the image...the idea.

(Our users probably wouldn't much appreciate that image... )
