link to another mysql database

We're looking at using photopost as an image hosting tool for our corporate website where we already have a mysql database with existing owners details. The idea would be to allow our existing customers the opportunity to post photos of them and their bikes (we're a bike company) and restrict it to just registered owners. I'm sure its possible to use the existing owners info but that might involve a lot of work, would it be possible to add a conditional to the registration process so that it checks the owners/email field on our existing database and only allows registrations where there is an existign email address ? Is this the kind of custom programming photopost provide?

we may also need a facility to add new users from the admin panel which I note photopost does not provide, is this possible to do?

Any other suggestions gratefully recieved
