Feature question regarding ReviewPost

I'm interested to know if ReviewPost has this feature (as seen on PhotoPost Classifieds):

NEW! PayPal Payments to charge for ads and optional items like highlighting, bold and italics.

ReviewPost is the application I'm most interested in, however, only if it has 'charge for posting items for review'. (I'm not interested in highlighting, bold and italics)

Also, can 'random products' or 'most recently reviewed products' or 'recently added' products be displayed on Forum Home on vBulletin Board? What about a module for vBAdvanced?

Thanks.

Hello

Reviewpost has no payment system within it like our classifieds does and this is the first time personall we have had someone wanting a payment system for product reviews.

There is a product display block included for vbulletin. You can use the module in vbadvanced as well.

Ok...but can it be done? I REALLY need this.B=0

I am sure if you want to modify your files if you can add a payment system.

We might consider it in a future version of the software should it be a feature enough customers want.

I'm not a programmer, and have no idea how to do this...

ok...plan B.

I guess I can easily modify Photopost Classifieds to do what I need, however, I'm wondering if I can change certain (ie DELETE) certain fields like: Asking Price, and condition.

I would need this to be a link to an audio file that the so called 'seller' enters when they are listing their ad.

Another option would be to add a field in between DESCRIPTION and KEYWORDS with a link to an audio file.

Possible?

Chuck S April 11th, 2006 02:06 PM

You can edit your templates to remove from display certain fields yes

You can add an extra field for a category where someone could put a link to somewhere yes

Is there a live site where I could see how this works?

Check out some of the featured sites. I have random blocks on mine

Ahh, thanks! Sorry I missed that featured sites area...

ok...'nother question:

I'm looking to provide a directory of 'podcasts of interest' to my users via flash player.

For instance see:
http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_...pod_genre_id=3

Click on any Genre, and then on any DETAILS for any podcast. Then click on PODCAST PLAYER.

Doing this launches the Podcast Alley Player (a flash player by WimpyPlayer). In the window of the player are listed all of the recent podcasts from that particular podcaster.

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure they're using this feature of Wimpy Player, which pulls the podcast feed from the MySql database:
http://www.wimpyplayer.com/Users_Man..._playlist.html

I'd like to allow podcasters to upload their podcasts to Photopost classifieds.

There would be a custom field where they would enter their podcast feed. When my users would click on the resulting link, it would open a wimpy player and launch the show.

Based on the specs listed at Wimpy player, is this possible?

Chuck S April 11th, 2006 05:59 PM

Well You can not upload a multimedia file to classifieds. You can however specify as noted an extra field where your users can place a link to the external site where the podcast is viewed as noted.

It would not be a 'multimedia file'. It would be the Feed address for the podcast.

eta
example of url, that a podcaster would enter when they place an ad in PhotoPost Classifieds:

Hi Chuck,

Sorry to bother, but I really need an answer to the question above.

Chuck S April 12th, 2006 07:48 AM

I already stated you could put a url in an extra field twice already ;)

Post 6 and Post 10

No, this is what you said:

I don't wish to add a link to an external site...I want to add a feed...

And as I mentioned in the other thread...support from this company is very adversarial.

It's a shame. This product seems like a good one, but the pre-sales 'welcome wagon' could use some improvement.

I understand if you don't have the technical knowledge to respond to my questions, but I fail to see the need for the adversarial responses.

Is there anyone else from the PhotoPost team who understands the questions and can assist?

Thanks.

Let's try and go through the program option as I outlined that you could add in the category editor so we can show you how this works.

You asked me if you could link a feed url into a product and gave an example link, here is one:

http://www.godcast.org/categories/theLivingWord/rss.xml

Now lets explain this in more detail

In the Admin section of the software you can setup 6 extra fields and name them as you choose. This is the extra field I was referring to of the six and you can name one say external rss feed whatever. When you add the item, you can place a url link in there.

I think the best example I can give would be to show you a visual example on my own test site

http://www.reeftalk.com/classifieds/...hp?product=116

I hope that shows you what you want to see as this is how I interpret what your saying here that you want. If not let me know

pcoskat April 12th, 2006 09:25 AM

I completely understand how to do what you outlined, and I was aware that this was possible.

HOWEVER, I am looking for specific functionality when clicking on the link, as detailed in post #9: http://www.photopost.com/forum/showp...68&postcount=9

Here's a more detailed example:

See here:
http://www.podcastalley.com/add_a_podcast.php
This is where a podcaster would enter their information, as well as, the URL with their RSS feed. [From what I can tell, a comparable interface exists in your applications]

See here:
http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_...p?pod_id=13128
This is how the information gets 'output'. Notice, you don't see a link to the feed. When you click on PODCAST PLAYER, the WimpyPlayer launches, and 'pulls' the show information from the feed that the broadcaster entered. [Using PhotoPost, as an example, I would need the 'photo' to be the Podcast graphic that the pocaster upladed, a brief description of the show, PLUS a 'click to play' link which launched the Wimpy player, and pulled from the RSS feed - when clicking on the link, I don't want to SEE the feed, as you have in your example above.]

I need [any of] your products to function in that manner.

In looking at PhotoPost, that layout probably works the best...I just need to know if I can modify the application to work in that manner using a) your product b) WimpyPlayer and this feature http://www.wimpyplayer.com/Users_Man..._playlist.html

In other words, the end user should see the Podcasters graphic, and be able to click on a link which launches the player with all available shows...

In [more] other words, I'm trying to build a podcast directory similar to the one seen at Podcast Alley, but using PhotoPost (or any Post product) combined with WimpyPlayer.

Chuck S April 12th, 2006 09:39 AM

Pcoskat

Well in post 11 you gave a direct example which was after post 9 so I based my example based on that since it was the last example given.

Now if I go to this next example you posted and click on podcast player that is also a url link as you posted above.

http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_...p?pod_id=13128

This can be entered the same way as the xml example you gave

Therefore I had ammended my url again and added this next link so check it out again here. I think visual aids are best

All you've done is link to Podcast alley...No offense, but I'm not looking for a tutorial on how to link to external sites.

The question is:

Can any of the applications sold here be modified to FUNCTION they way the podcast directory at Podcast Alley FUNCTIONS?

I'm trying to build a podcast directory similar to the one seen at Podcast Alley, but using PhotoPost (or any Post product) combined with WimpyPlayer.

This seems to be the CRITICAL part you are missing (completely)

See here:
http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_...p?pod_id=13128

This whole line of questioning probably falls under your "Custom Programming Services" as listed here: http://store.yahoo.com/techimo/photlic.html

Should I send a ticket to them to have them look at this thread, or does that team regularly monitor these boards?

Chuck S April 12th, 2006 10:17 AM

With whimpy it looks to me like podcast is a proprietary software for this given this page meaning they work hand in hand with displaying feeds.

http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/mp3/podcast.html

My honest feeling here is that if your trying to do something more than add a link to a page that our software could have to be modified extensively to perform the same functions as a podcast.

Most software can be modified to perform functions it is not necessarily written for however the most important aspects to consider before purchase would be either do you have the technical knowledge to modify the software to perform as you would like or would it be economically sounds for you to pay outside coders to modify it for you.
