vbpicgallery conversion

We are thinking about switching over to photopost from our currently gallery solution, vbpicgallery (http://www.cpurigs.com/).

We have two somewhat large galleries going:

http://nloc.net/forum/vbpicgallery.php?

http://nhtoc.com/forum/vbpicgallery.php?

My question is, has anyone here ever converted from vbpicgallery to Photopost before? Are there any conversion scripts out there already?

I think the biggest problem will be that the images are currently stored in the mysql tables as blobs and I'll have convert them to files to be compatible with Photopost.

Any suggestions or comments?

Great images :)
- I do not know of a importer yet, but it should not be a big problem with a little time.

For me or for you guys? :)

I've done a conversion before, but it was from third-party gallery to vbpicgallery and there were a lot of pitfalls to watch out for. I could do it again, but don't look forward to it.

We probably should have went with photopost in the first place, it has so many features it makes my head spin.

All images are stored in the database ?
- Is there an option to export to disk ?

No. It would be a manual conversion (php page that interacts with mysql). I'd have to convert everything it has to files, which will be difficult, then I'll have to convert the end result to Photopost.

Yeah at present we only have importers from commercial gallery applications. We never looked into creating importers from a company perspective for photo gallery hacks since they are not really a competitor.

If we were to release one I can not say when this would be since my plate is always pretty full in all the duties I do around here.

I hear ya. My main goal was to see if anyone had done this before. I guess I'll break some ground!

Also, we just purchased a copy of PP. The fun is about to begin.

Technically, it would be a commercial script since a $20 "donation" is required to download it. ;)

LOL Did that not change ;)

It use to be to my knowledge a free hack at one point.

Ok, now I have the pictures converted from being in the table to being on the filesystem. After looking at the tables that PP uses, it doesn't appear that it will be that hard. I think I only have to work with two new tables and most of it will be letting the default values fill in. I'll post my conversion script when I'm done.

Thanks!

I think I've done it. When I make sure there aren't any bugs, I'll post the script I wrote up for it.

Did anything ever come from this? I want to move away from vbpicgallery too, but don't want to start from scratch.

exspecto July 4th, 2009 08:21 PM

Yes, I wrote a script way back then and it worked. They moved it to:

http://www.photopost.com/forum/photo...photopost.html

Feel free to use it and edit it to suit your needs.

Enjoy

Has anyone tried to use this with the new vbGallery 3.0?
