Database rebuild in PhotoPost?

Hi. I'm currently running a cgi-based image gallery which has around 8000 pics. A problem I'm having is that the database needs to be rebuilt, via the browser, to make keywords active. The more images the longer the rebuild - sometimes up to an hour as there are server timeouts. Is this necessary with Photopost? I suspect not but would welcome confirmation. thanks.

You do not need to do anything like this with photopost. All our information is stored via mysql and updates immediately on change.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping! My last question is about keyword and field data. All the images on my site have this data stored as IPTC info - does PhotoPost read this or will it need to be re-entered. Thanks.

Just so I'm clear. When I transfer to PhotoPost I will need to re-upload my images and re-keyword the images as the keywords will now be stored in the mysql database and not be fixed with the image - correct?
If so, is there a way i can batch keyword a bunch of images in one go? thanks.

You will need to upload photos yes and we do support bulkupload if you ftp so many images to a directory you can process them.

We can extract EXIF data from an image as noted. Keywords can be placed at the time of image processing just like titles and descriptions. You can also create extra fields to input data that might be normally shown with photos.

Sorry to come back on this again but I need to make sure I fully understand how this works before I switch/purchase. Can you give me a simple example of how keywords are added to an image - I don't know what you mean by 'Keywords can be placed at the time of image processing just like titles and descriptions.'
Does the user upload their image and then add the data to the various fields? Thanks again.

Hello

A user can upload an image and place title description keywords and any number of extra fields a user defines when they upload an image. If you have jhead on your system we can extract exif information from an image

You can try uploading a photo to our gallery here on http://www.photopost.com/photopost

PhotoPost uses an external application, jhead, to grab IPTC and EXIF information from image files.

Yes, you can add an unlimited number of additional fields for input - text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, etc.

Your photo has the exif camera button to display the exif anyway to make additional fields you would do this under Admin => Edit Categories for any given category you would add a field and then on upload the user would be presented with it to answer.
