I am currently running VB3.0.7 and running a hack that allows (normal)members to view thumbnail attactchments and when they click on them they are prompted they need special subscription (registered)..

You can set permissions to allow/disallow usergroups to view thumbnails, medium, and large images, so it shouldn't be a problem to only allow paid members to view your larger images.

yes
if you define a usergroup where members pay to access..
and you let them upload..
disable the upload for all other usergroups.
