View Full Version : Can't edit users
December 20th, 2013, 11:33 AM
I recently discover a problem. I am still running vb 3.8 and vbg build 2.51. I have not done anything to my vb or vb gallery in a while and all of a sudden I started having problems with editing users in my admincp. It will not let me edit users in my admincp. I started disabling my plugins one at a time to troubleshoot this. When I disable the VBG plugin then I can edit users again.
What is in VBG that started causing this problem and how can I fix it? I did not have this problem until just recently. How can I fix this. I am getting ready to upgrade in a week to vb 4.2.2 and the latest VBG but I want to have this working before I run the upgrade.
Should I submit a ticket?

What exactly is the problem when you try to edit a user? If it is something simple I may be able to provide a solution. I will install a test copy in my vb 4.22 and see if I can replicate.
Just FYI as I have told most users we have not actively developed vbGallery for a few years now and have removed all aspects of it from our site documentation other than support forums and member area therefore at some point you will need to switch to Pro and there are importers here to assist in that task once you install Pro.

It is not happening in my VB 4.2.2. It's happening in my VB 3.8. I want to upgrade to 4.2.2 but I want to get this resolved before I do. I noticed that this just started happening in the last week (I am guessing).
When I go into a users account in the vb admincp and try to change them to a registered user it tells me that it saved but when I go back to the account it did not take. This happens to any user I try to change. If I disable the VBG plugin then I can change the user. So this tell me that it has something to do with the VBG plugin.
I am aware that VBG is going away. Thank you for reminding me. I will be switching over to PP later on but I have to do one step at a time.

I was not able to replicate here on our support site using vb3 which uses 3.81 nor was I able to replicate any errors in my vb 4.22
It could be a conflict between vbgallery and another hack and turning off vbgallery removes the issue. You could try turning off all other plugins and leave just the forum and vbgallery on as a test.
This is one of those things you would need to upgrade and see. We have not developed the vb3 aspect of vbgallery is over 5 or more years.

I turned off VBG in my plugins and I have had no problems after that. The galley still works with the VBG plugin turned off so I left the plugin turned off. I am not sure if this will cause further problems with the VBG being turned off and it still working, will it? I will leave it turned off.
I am heading out the door right now. I will try turning off some of the other plugins later and to see if it is a conflict with VBG.

well you may experience issues like adding users into the vbgallery users table etc with the plugin off as there are stuff like cache and user stuff that happens behind the scenes in the plugin.
All I am saying is I did not seem to have an issue with it in vb3 or vb4 on either site I tried but then again we do not really use alot of vb hacks/mods so I am unsure of the conflict might be there or not. I just know in the vb3 site here on our site which is essentially vb and vbgallery has no issues editing users. I would think if this was a global issue with vbgallery I should be able to reproduce it yet I can not.

I did as you recommended and disabled all my plugins and left only left PhotoPost vBGallery enabled. I still can not change the status of certain users from within the admincp. But as soon as I disable the PhotoPost vBGallery I can edit the users.
I don't know what to do next?

Your saying it is only certain usernames? Maybe try updating counters under maintenance tab in vbgallery admin settings.
As far as what to do the action would be to either run the old vbgallery for vb3 that has not been developed for 6 years or switch to Pro which is developed and updated every couple months. That process would take you an hour out of your life to do. ;)
