View Full Version : Uploading Zip Files

I'm working with my host again to establish PHP Maximum Upload Size increase (currently 2MB) and Imagemagik, not sure what they can do help, but I have a ticket open with support.
Currently I'm unable to upload any zip files, and from what I see in previous related threads, PHP Max Upload, and GD2 could be the issue. The screen appears to process the upload (a small zip with 3 files in it), but no picts are in the gallery I uploaded to.
Any additional settings, tips and insights on what key things we need to have in place to allow zip uploads?

You can send me the zip your trying to use and I can test it on my test setup.

Chuck, we're good to go. I literally just finished up with my host support team and doing some testing right now.
They have Imagemagik now, so I changed conversion from GD2 to that. They also increased my MaxPHPFilesize, and I went into the Admin panel to change max upload sizes for usergroups, for those we allow posting photo's.
So using a compression utility on an Android device (tablet, or phone), I zipped the picts, used a browser to get to the Gallery, and completed an upload. Beautiful.
Now I need to just learn more about tweaking the mobile template, I want to improve it a little.

Yeah thats why I asked for the zipfile because if you where using a test zipfile under your max php size of 2mb until they altered your PHP things should have worked.
The processor of images should not matter about zip file uploading since the zip portion would just be uploading the file and extracting the images into the user uploads directory. If your processing huge images GD2 could fail because of not having enough PHP memory which is why in other discussions you see me always recommend using Imagemagick.
The mobile templates themselves are merely tweaked down versions of the main gallery folder templates just without all the bells and whistles which is the way most sites operate to a degree. You can further refine any of the templates in the mobile folder as you wish I just do not comprehend what else your going to remove. ;)

I uploaded a zip file of 4 photos to the gallery of this forum with no problems at all. It seems that the flash uploader plugin is not activated here.
With the similar setup I can also upload zip files to my own PhotoPost/VB4.2.0. If I switch on the flash uploader, the uploading of zip files is not possible. However, if I mark .zip as an allowed file type, it seems that the zipfile will upload o.k. ,but PhotoPost does not unzip the file.
Is it possible to have both goodies at the same time? Flash uploader with zip upload capability?

Certain functions are not active with the flash uploader hense they are disabled and not shown.

So it is unpossible to have both zip capability and flash. Maybe in next version;)?

We shall see I am responding via a support answer here not future possible functionality. ;)
