View Full Version : question about upgrade validation completion
April 23rd, 2013, 01:10 PM
Hey Chuck--assume you're the one to answer this:
I recently moved to 8.3--the upgrade was largely seamless, but I did see a random SQL insertion error which, I chalked up to the table already existing. It said successful/complete other than that, and unfortunately I was not able to save the mysql insertion/create error.
Do you have a list of new tables/columns that should exist in 8.3 that did not exist in 7.x? I'd like to verify that everything is there that should be and create what might be missing.
There's a few things that I haven't been able to get working still:
> on the vb4.2 forum side, I don't have a menu link in the nav for photopost
> on the photopost side, i don't have a menu bar with the admin link, or favorites/albums etc as we used to have (not sure where that should be or if it's still there?)
I did reimport the product-xml a couple of times in hopes it would overwrite something that didn't work the first time, but that's not yielded positive results.
Appreciate any help-

If you do not have any navigation then I assume the xml stuff is not done right.
I can have a look if you want.
My overall suggestion would be to download the code upload the install directory as well as the adm-plugin.php and download.php files. Set the xml files in install directory to 777 permissions and then in your vb uninstall any old vb4 plugin for the gallery. Go to your admin panel of the gallery which is noted in the upgrade install instructions and generate the vb4 xml.
You can then install that into vbulletin product manager and you should have all the navigation. Our navigation exists in the vb navbar in vb4.2

Hey Chuck--I'll give it another go, I wish there was a way to keep that option live (to re-export the code) without disrupting the gallery.
I have the xml if you want to look that over, or if you want to check out the db I can give you access to that as well (to ensure the upgrade was complete) --not sure what access you need but I can probably cough it up.

Redoing the xml takes a couple minutes. ;) I am only guessing without seeing your site but what your talking about requires redoing the xml
April 23rd, 2013, 06:05 PM
re-imported--still nuttin. I'll pm you with site details and a link to the xml if that helps?
April 23rd, 2013, 06:22 PM
you dont seem to accept pm's :) Blu-Ray Covers, DVD Covers, Game Covers - DVD Cover Art (http://r1db.com/covers) is the site, i've obfuscated the login credentials in the xml but prefer not to upload it due to path statements (i think they're in there)

You can send data to sales at photopost dot com.
Yeah definately something is up on your site see no reference to any navigation.
April 23rd, 2013, 06:53 PM
Ya, not sure what the dilly is, I'm sending an email to sales with the xml in it.
Just to note, the xml wont actually export properly--i copy it from the window, if it downloads it just creates an empty file.
April 23rd, 2013, 07:40 PM
As long as the xml files in install are 777 it should export but I sent you something that should work as your xml does not look right.
April 23rd, 2013, 07:40 PM
I went through the upgrade script and verified that it added all the fields from 7.0 to 8.3 --the only thing that looks like it failed is the conversion to utf8
April 23rd, 2013, 08:02 PM
alright--the modified xml was a winner--what was wrong with it? should i worry about doing the utf-8 conversion? and what collation should i use?
April 23rd, 2013, 08:45 PM
I think your files where older which is why I suggested you download 8.3 and upload the install directory and adm-plugin.php and download.php ;)
No biggy I made you a proper xml
You can use whatever collation you want it should match what your forum uses.
I will have 8.31 out soon which will allow use of mysqli as well as some more enhanced options on automatically setting the mysql charset etc
I just finished updating our old install script and have to update our upgrade script some. Made that easier by making it go directly to the upgrade you need if you need one. ;) Just need to freshen things up there and will post an update.
April 23rd, 2013, 09:30 PM
awesome--thanks for the help. I'm going to try to refresh those files tomorrow--when I'm a bit less sleepy :)
April 23rd, 2013, 10:19 PM
yeah off to bed here bit tired myself updating files. ;)
April 24th, 2013, 11:39 AM
Hey Chuck, got all the files up there (updated 8.31)
My db was converted to utf8 utf8-general --only thing I see left with some strangeness is:
if i search for something say 'regie' :
Régie du cinéma 16+
It returns as it should, but the character set isn't displaying correctly? Should i convert back to latin or something else to display that? its an accented 'e'
Also, breadcrumbs don't show if in a subcategory
April 24th, 2013, 01:48 PM
I would have to see your site and examples
As far as data it all depends on how the original data was entered you can try editing that and entering what you think it should say and see if that works.
If your database encoding was different it could have some issues displaying database info. Does it display right when you put it to the charset.
Your charset should really be whatever you have been using that is why I added a specific setting so that everything works as it always has. In our default program I use utf8 because that displays the widest amount of foreign languages.
But you can not display say win1256 charset info on a utf8 encoding thats all I am saying.

Your forum is using ISO-8859-1 you want to set your character set to whatever your forum tables are. I would suspect you want to use latin1
Your character set is set on your forum since you use the forum header so that is what encoding your site is using.
April 24th, 2013, 02:51 PM
roger that--I flipped it to latin1 and things are looking up!
Appreciate the quick help... if i can bother you once more--in the find/replace for header-inc.php - if i replace the search string to strip off the ?do=process - and i want to use /covers/search.php - what is needed there to pass search through to pp? I'm about to try just a ? at the end--but it seems that would be too simple ;)
April 24th, 2013, 03:19 PM
what are you referring to?
Photopost has its own search so not sure your trying to do.
April 24th, 2013, 03:23 PM
Ya, I have one of those generic search boxes in the top header--this is no fault of photoposts --i've change header-inc.php to not override the search.php so it will search inside /photopost/search.php (vs. pathtoforum/search.php).
But it looks like this might take some work to get this to properly search, as vbulletin is passing some hidden fields and not the proper field photopost wants to see. Ideally, I think I'll have to create a vb:if that identifies if the current tab is photopost, and if so, change the search conditions.
Hope that clarifies what Im trying--but certainly nothing you need to waste your time trying to help me with :)
April 24th, 2013, 04:04 PM
Well if your trying to define a gallery search the search has to be coded to work and go to our search script and you can view the basic parameters in the form element we use in searchbox thats a simple input box example. ;)
April 24th, 2013, 08:34 PM
Ya--that's what im trying to do--basically identify when its on the photopost tab, but I can't seem to figure out the stupid changes in vb4.2 --
<vb:if condition="$vboptions['selectednavtab'] == PP_Pro">testing</vb:if>
trying something like that in the template but the define 'this script' doesn't seem to play nice in there?
you know of any easy way to identify when it's on the photopost tab? or the header-inc is being used?
April 24th, 2013, 08:34 PM
April 24th, 2013, 09:10 PM
well it all depends what is active where your doing things I have no idea what would work. I know via the vb plugins how we set the active tab by doing a plugin to like navigation_tab_main
if (PP_SCRIPT == 'PP_Pro') $root= 'photopost_pro';
April 25th, 2013, 08:11 AM
Thanks Chuck- got that working with this (for anyone wanting it):
<vb:if condition="PP_SCRIPT == 'PP_Pro'">
put the photopost search form here
put the vb search form here
Is it possible to pull '$cat' from inside the vb template? Trying to submit that as a hidden variable by page location and it doesnt seem to show up. havent tried echo'ing it anywhere but I'm guessing its a no go without bringing it into the header-inc
April 25th, 2013, 08:59 AM
You can try whatever variable works for this variable
It might or might not work
April 26th, 2013, 06:26 PM
That is the variable we use in the vb navigation manager to set the cat on the upload url of the upload link when your viewing a category however for that variable to be active you need to be in a category.
