View Full Version : PPP How to show pics of given cat for given timeframe - and confusing behaviour

Hi,

*Note to admin: I`ve a valid licence but can`t seem to post in the "PPP Support Forum - How do I - forum".*

I`d like to achieve the following:

A user should be able to view all pictures of a given category uploaded during the last 3 days. Even if this category doesn`t contain any pics itself but it`s sub-categories do.

Example:
Parent category:
Thermomix-Rezepte - Wunderkessel Fotogalerie (http://www.wunderkessel.de/galerie/showgallery.php?cat=695)
no possibility to set filter options or select pictures.

Child category:
Thermomix: Suppen: vegetarisch/vegan - Wunderkessel Fotogalerie (http://www.wunderkessel.de/galerie/showgallery.php?cat=641)
only here I can select a timeframe and other options

But what if u user would like to see all the pics of the last x days for all sub-cats of the parent category?

I tried to use the search
Suchen - Wunderkessel Fotogalerie (http://www.wunderkessel.de/galerie/search.php)
without entering anything in the keyword field but instead selecting a time frame and the desired parent category - there will be no result even if there definitely are pictures for the given timeframe in the sub-categories.

Another thing i noticed:
I open a popular category and limit the timeframe to only one day (sorttime =1) in the option bar at the bottom:
Thermomix: Backen: Suesse Sachen - Wunderkessel Fotogalerie (http://www.wunderkessel.de/galerie/showgallery.php?cat=653)
then I click on the sort button.

What happens now is that the user is taken to the default quick-jump category selected in the row below. Instead the user should stay in the current category with the chosen filter options applied.

I have to use the browsers back-button to return to the desired category and find the sorttime of one day applied.

But if I now navigate to any other category where no pictures have been posted during the last day, I will have no pictures displayed and what`s even worse: I have no choice of changing the sorttime as the option bar is not showed when there is no result.

So I can only search for a category where pictures have been posted during the last 24 hours to be able to reset the time limit.

I`m absolutely sure that most of my visitors are confused/annoyed by this behaviour.

I first thought that I misconfigured something but then I checked the PPP demo gallery:
A community photo gallery - PhotoPost Photo Gallery (http://www.photopost.com/photopost/)
and found out that it behaves exactly the same way.

So I really think this should be changed:
Search (search.php) or filtering options should also deliver results from sub-categories
When setting filtering options, the user should stay in the current category and not jump to a place he doesn`t want to be.
The options bar at the bottom should also be displayed when there is no result
Applied filtering settings maybe should only be set for the current category and not for the entire session

What are your thoughts on this?

all the best,
Sacha

PhotoPost Community - Announcements in Forum : General Discussion (http://www.photopost.com/forum/general-discussion/announcements.html)

That should clear up any issues being able to post as support is not free and this is why you can not post or search support nor receive product support.

I will tell you without getting to complicated here that the search script works as it is designed to work. The category box allows you to highlight multiple different categories you wish to search or leave it on all categories. It is not designed to work specifically the way you are trying to explain. You want to just select a top level category and have it automatically do all children.

To select which categories you want to search hold down ctrl and click the ones you want to select.
