View Full Version : Just moved server...
May 6th, 2011, 07:40 PM
from Site Manager to CPanel.
Move went well and all seems to work OK, except that when you click on an image to get a full size view of it, the full size image doesn't come up, just a missing image symbol.
Any ideas what we've done wrong?
Probably something silly knowing us!
May 6th, 2011, 10:36 PM
That should help. If your using an overlay watermark make sure you have updated the watermark path.
May 7th, 2011, 04:02 AM
I actually found this thread and went through it step-by-step whilst moving the forum, and also went through the whole thing again when enlarging the image didn't work. All steps seems fine.
Any other suggestions?

How about your watermark path if your using onthefly watermarking?
I would need to see the site for a more indepth answer.
May 7th, 2011, 05:23 PM
Yes, already checked the path to the watermark, and it's working fine.

An example of when you can see the problem with enlarging an image is Message - The Vincent H.R.D. Owners Club Photo Gallery (http://www.vincentownersclub.co.uk/photos/showphoto.php/photo/8017/title/p10002661/cat/792)

Have you checked the STORAGE OPTIONS?
May 8th, 2011, 02:03 AM
Yup - STORAGE OPTIONS do have the correct paths.
May 8th, 2011, 11:55 AM
well you prevent guests from seeing any content on your site so again all I can do is guess at any issue since I can not see it.
However your issue has to be something I have already meantioned. If you are having trouble with large images showing your issue can only be a bad watermark or bad storage options path. Those are the only answers of that I am sure.
May 8th, 2011, 12:00 PM
just changed the access for non logged in people
You should be able to see it now.
May 8th, 2011, 12:08 PM
You must be a registered user to view images!
To register click on the REGISTER button in the menu above.
That is what I get. Like I said your issue can only be very few things if your thumbnails and medium images show but large ones do not.
1. Your storage options are incorrect.
2. Your watermark path is incorrect and your using on the fly watermarks.
If you are 100 percent sure your storage options are correct then try turning off the on the fly option. If your images show then you have confirmed your watermark path was wrong.
May 9th, 2011, 06:32 AM
I've switched off the 'on the fly' option and still had the same problem.
I've just 'triple' checked my storage options and they appear to be fine...
Current PATH setting: /home/thevince/public_html/photos/data/
Default PATH setting: /home/thevince/public_html/photos/data/
Current URL setting: http://www.vincentownersclub.co.uk/photos/data
Default URL setting: http://www.vincentownersclub.co.uk/photos/data
Any other suggestions?
PS - by the way, my watermark is stored in a different place to normal (/home/thevince/public_html/voc_specific/photopost_watermark/voc_roundel_mono.png) but the path is correct, so wouldn't think this would make a difference?!
May 9th, 2011, 11:39 AM
That may make a difference depending all I can do to this point is guess.
As I have stated I can not see anything on your site still so it is hard to comment on your issue without seeing the problem. The issue you have described I have stated the only issues that I know of that can cause that.
May 9th, 2011, 11:54 AM
Huge apologies, I thought I had opened up viewing to non Members.
You should be able to view images now.
May 9th, 2011, 12:30 PM
HMM all your images are showing fine. Maybe your talking about when you hover over your medium image it disappears. is so it might be the zoom feature images which I suspect are not showing on your site.
If you turn off the zoom thing do things work fine.
May 10th, 2011, 12:40 PM
OK, I've carried out a bit more investigation. I've also disabled the zoom feature.
Navigate to this link then click on the medium sized image to get a larger one and the enlarge image feature seems to work OK. piston rim failure - The Vincent H.R.D. Owners Club Photo Gallery (http://www.vincentownersclub.co.uk/photos/showphoto.php/photo/8023/title/piston-rim-failure/cat/807)
However, navigate to this link and it sort of gets there, but not quite.

As an aside, I've noticed that the little animated bar and the close box didn't work properly, so I edited lightbox.js and changed the variables to...
var fileLoadingImage = "/home/thevince/public_html/photos/images/loading.gif";
var fileBottomNavCloseImage = "/home/thevince/public_html/photos/images/closelabel.gif";
Still no good though!
Thanking you in anticipation of your help!

You would use urls in the lightbox script not server path for one.
If you disable lightbox and use the regular popup does that one image load? Maybe a conflict with the actual lightbox script. Not much I can do about that but lets narrow it down.
May 10th, 2011, 09:46 PM
Changed the server paths to URLs and that all works fine now.
Tried disabling Lightbox, but it made no difference.
I've left the Lightbox integration 'off' so you can see the result.

Your missing the actual main image so did not transfer from your old server you can try rebuilding thumbnails under scan database in admin and it will delete images that do not exist.
May 10th, 2011, 10:07 PM
I've just tried that, and it ended up deleting most of our images!
I've still got our old server available.
What's my best way forward from this?
May 10th, 2011, 10:22 PM
restore a backup of your photos table.
recopy your data directory to the new server.
Your missing images so yes if you try and rebuild an image and it does not exist we will properly delete it from your gallery.
May 11th, 2011, 03:56 AM
OK, that would certainly make a lot of sense.
Quite a bit of work for me to do here, so I will do as you suggest and report back once I've carried it out.
Just to get an idea of the files that I'm reinstating (and to get things straight in my head)…
I'm going to copy the entire '/photos/data' folder from our old server onto the new (not sure what happened last time and why it didn't work properly).
Can I just confirm with you though - in the data folder are many individual folders numbered 1 and 2, followed by 500 thru 807. Inside each of these folders are another three folders - mini, medium and thumbs. The medium and thumbs folders contain images, whilst the mini folder is empty. Is this consistent with what you would expect to see?
Furthermore, a many of these numbered folders contain the mini, medium and thumbs folders, but these are all empty (except for index.html).
Thanks for your continued help Chuck.
May 11th, 2011, 10:38 AM
Yes the data folder structure sounds normal. there should be your main images in the actual data 1-807 folders themselves. These are alot of the images your missing on your copy
If your categories are empty of images then those categories do not have any images. A data folder is created for every category you create in admin.
Like I said to actually have those photos exist on your site you must have both the data folder and the photos table backups. The images would have to exist in your backed up data.
May 11th, 2011, 10:53 AM
OK, all understood. The actual database of course needs replacing, and I do have a copy of this, so no problems there.
The numbered folders are associated to the actual categories on the website. Therefore, a folder with no files, equates to a category on the website with no images uploaded.
You're right - there must have been a lot of images missing on my copy. I can't imagine why that is. I'm just glad I haven't cancelled my old hosting account yet. It's an incredibly slow process. I have to download the entire 'data' folder via FTP to my local computer, then upload the whole lot again via FTP to the new server. It's a real pain, and our webhost couldn't offer any alternative way of doing it!
May 11th, 2011, 11:03 AM
Yes unfortunately for most people that is the only recourse they have. If you have ssh you can gzip your data directory and then ftp that to your new host and where you want and set permissions to 777 recursively.
May 11th, 2011, 12:38 PM
OK, all files still copying - it's going to take a while, so no problem.
Am I right in thinking that the large images are stored in the category folders, and then the medium and thumbnail images are stored within their respective sub folders?
If so, I have a bit of a problem, as it would appear that a few/many of our category folders don't have large images stored lose in the main folder. We only have medium and thumbs.
If I'm missing the large files, couldn't I just make duplicates of the medium images and put them in the parent folder? OK, so they wouldn't be top quality, but at least PhotoPost would be happy the high resolution images were present.
May 11th, 2011, 03:29 PM
So you arent able to copy your images from the old server? Have you had your host make sure permissions where 777 recursively and you had access to them. Do they exist on the old server.
You could copy the mediums over sure that might trick things to working but how would you know what images are missing or not missing you could potentially overright alot of larges that do exist with there medium counterparts.
May 23rd, 2011, 06:15 AM
Have just got to the bottom of what went wrong with our server move. It would appear that the data files didn't copy correctly from the old server. I therefore made sure the permissions were 777 on the old server before copying them off. I then copied them back, and all now appears to be AOK.
Thanks for your help Chuck.
