View Full Version : Big problems after switch to Xenforo
April 24th, 2011, 09:38 PM
I switched integrations from vBulletin to Xenforo and now my gallery is acting all wonky.
The PP database is the old forum db. (For now.)
PP is doing auth from the new Xenforo db (and it seems to be working ok.)
When browsing as a guest you see PP I guess trying to grab some styling from Xenforo. When you log in as a user you get a nice white/peach theme.
When I log in as my admin user, I don't get that other theme, NOR do I get the link to go into the admin control panel.
I've run userfix.php and it seems to have not made a difference.
The gallery URL is A community photo gallery - NJPineBarrens.com Image Gallery (http://gallery.njpinebarrens.com)

Also, FYI my admin uid is 1. So I'm not sure why I'd not see the admin control panel link.

Did you correctly switch integrations and reinstall to integrate with xenforo?
There are plenty of threads here on "switch integration"
You basically have to clear your usergroups table in photopost and correctly reinstall photopost to integrate with xenforo. This means entering all the correct xenforo info including very important the xenforo global salt or you will never be logged in.

So funny enough I saw another thread where someone asked a similar question and I saw you replied with "There are plenty of threads here on "switch integration" so I was sure to search here for that.
It looks like I did skip deleting the usergroup table. I did that, reran the install, and reran userfix.php. Now I can log in as administrator, but most of my users albums are gone.
In fact now it shows that my user album is 3000-someodd pictures, but if you go in you only see the ones that I have uploaded.

I did a db scan and it seems to have put the pictures back where they should. I'm waiting to hear back from my users to see if they can log in and see their own pics like they should.

So for some reason now I have two listings of the same category on my site:
A community photo gallery - NJPineBarrens.com Image Gallery (http://gallery.njpinebarrens.com)
Forgotten Towns shows up twice. In the admin control panel it shows up twice as well - once directly under "Member Galleries" and once under "Main."
If I delete the category, it will delete both of them.

Maybe turn off the category cache?
There is nothing in the code that is going to duplicate the display of a category and I have never heard any report of something like that.
I can not speak on authenticity of any data when doing a integration switch. It is not a supported action since we can not guarantee photo ownership can be accurately changed for all users. I wrote up scripts to help but there is no guarantee since no one can guarantee what happens when forums import other forum data.
The best way for you to make sure there we no issues is to rerun the install with a database backup before you started switching things. For instance if you do a integration switch and then go into admin panel and do an update username on photos and comments action from scan database in photopost admin you will mess up all your photo ownerships. That is why there is a userfix script. Userfix tries to find the proper userids based on the username. That username has to exist exactly in the new forum tables and your application has to be correctly installed with the new forum script for userfix to work.

The category cache is (and always has been) off.
I'm sure there's nothing specific in the code that would duplicate the display of a category. I'm more sure that there's a database consistency problem, considering that only 7 of my users albums showed up before I ran a scan. I've had sporadic problems with albums appearing and disappearing over the years with Photopost and database scans seemed to have fixed that.
As for what I should have done, I did the best with what I could based on the available documentation, of which there is none. "Go search the forums" is fine and dandy, but isn't going to get you a canonical step-by-step approach to how to do things. I'm not digging at you as I know you have your hands full with coding, but in my very humble opinion you folks ought to go rework your documentation - especially when lots of folks are in the process of switching from vB to Xenforo.
Right now I'm kind of stuck with a half-working gallery. I can restore from a backup, but to be honest I've restored and tried reintegrating a number of times, each time resulting in a different set of problems. Right now I'm trying to push people over to Flickr because I just want to be out of the gallery hosting business, but I can't pull the plug on the gallery quite yet.
So, what do you suggest I do to fix the situation?

Well I can't really say anything without actually seeing your data but as I said switching integrations is something we really do not support overall since it relies heavily on forum import scripts and how they import data for us to match users.
That is a step by step tutorial.
You really want to start with a database backup of your photopost tables before you switched to xenforo and do the steps meantioned.
You will know if your correctly integrated and running right with xenforo when your done. Once your sure of that you can try running userfix but not before making sure you have installed correctly to integrate with xenforo.
If you ran userfix when your integration was not 100% into the new forum you could essentially mess up ownership of photos comments and albums.

Sure, that's a step by step tutorial that addresses switching from phpbb to vB, hidden on the forums somewhere. What I'm saying is that something more concise (and generically named so that folks know that that procedure applies to them) should be in the official user documentation that is linked to from the customer area. Heck, once my situation is figured out I'd be happy to contribute some documentation for the process.
I'll go back to my pre-Xenforo database and try to do the install and reintegration again.
Thanks for your help so far! :)

Okay - step by step:
1) Restored old PP database and install files. Things work fine - can log in with my old forums credentials. (I changed the password for my admin user in Xenforo.) I can see all of my albums and everything looks great.
2) Upgraded to PP 7.1 Things still work fine.
3) Dropped pp_usergroups table
4) Ran install.php. Got database errors (as expected since it's not making new database tables and whatnot. Errorlog is attached to this post.) Setup forum integration, etc.
5) Logged in with the credentials from my new forum. I can log in. I now have two "Forgotten Towns" categories, each exactly the same. Note that I have *NOT* rescanned the database OR ran userfix.php yet.
I'm going to hold things right here. What do you want me to do from here?
April 25th, 2011, 09:59 PM
Reinstalling is not going to create extra categories
You sure you have ran any applicable upgrades if you upgraded?
You do not do any database scans AT ALL. You can run userfix.php if your totally sure your integration is fine.
However as I have said a few times if your xenforo importer changes usernames in any fashion you could have some ownership orphaning on photos or comments. Not too much I can do about that.
Aside from that if your integration is working then you should be working fine as far as that is concerned.
April 25th, 2011, 10:06 PM
Okay, well the long and the short of it is that after running install.php my "Forgotten Towns" category shows up twice. I know it shouldn't, but it does. Full stop, there's no arguing that it has happened.
Usernames have not changed. The only difference between my old forums users and my new is that my admin password changed and I registered a test account in Xenforo. Other than that there have been no changes.
Maybe what I will do is make a new category and move the data from the duplicated category into that and then delete the duplicated category.
April 25th, 2011, 10:11 PM
And I just ran userfix, and now all of my member galleries have disappeared.
Chuck, what the heck is going on with this thing?
April 25th, 2011, 10:14 PM
I can not say without seeing what your doing but there is no company support for switching integrations or userfix script.
You can send urls admin logins and ftp and phpmyadmin info for me to see your data and I can respond accordingly. I am not going to guess here.
April 25th, 2011, 10:21 PM
Where should I send them?
I don't use phpmyadmin or FTP. I have my own server, so I use the mysql command line utilities and scp my files around.
April 25th, 2011, 10:29 PM
HMM well I would suggest if you run your own server you install a copy of phpmyadmin its easy. Makes it real easy to browse the database data and see things outright.
If you have cpanel or plesk as your hosting panel usually phpmyadmin is already in there.
You can send any data to the contact us link in the header. probally will not get to it till tomorrow as its getting late here and I am going to sleep. ;)
April 25th, 2011, 10:34 PM
I'll install phpMyAdmin for you. No cpanel or plesk or hosting company either. :)
Sweet dreams! Thanks again for your help! ;)

No problem let us know
I sent you an email with details last night.
April 26th, 2011, 10:17 AM
Yeah I see I will let you know if I need anything else.
April 26th, 2011, 11:22 AM
Ok cool. Thanks! I really appreciate you looking at this for me!
April 26th, 2011, 11:33 AM
I sent an email I see absolutely no issues with your site or albums ownership they all show fine to me.
The only issue I can look at and see what is going on is that category thing so I would love to look at that and have sent the info you wanted.
April 26th, 2011, 12:09 PM
What did you do to get the user galleries to show up? Last night they weren't showing.
I've added your IP so you should be able to log in now.
April 26th, 2011, 12:52 PM
Your number 2 category just had to be reset in right catorder
April 26th, 2011, 01:26 PM
Well, I have no idea what that means, but thanks! I appreciate all your help! Things look great now!
April 26th, 2011, 01:32 PM
All I did was get rid of the main category that was added when you ran install again and I rebuilt your members last photo and rebuild cat counts. Two things that are good to do.
April 27th, 2011, 08:34 PM
Thanks again for all of your help!
