View Full Version : Upgrade from Gallery 2.5 not working
January 20th, 2010, 08:14 PM
I'm trying to upgrade from Gallery 2.5 to Photopost 7.0.1 on vB4 on my clone forum.
When I try the photopost url I get a white screen but I've checked all the paths and they look OK.
I've noticed also that when I change the config files on my clone forum they change on my live forum running on 3.8.2.
Any help will be appreciated.

You cant upgrade to pro 7.01 from vbgallery 2.5
You need to install pro and then import the vbgallery content.
If you just installed pro and get a white screen my suggestion is to check the $vbpath line is the correct server path to your vb install. ;)

Upgrade was the wrong word to use :)
I will just wait for the upgrade of vBgallery to vB4, any idea on a date when this will be ready Chuck?

still weeks off I last heard.
I explained why you had a white page on pro did you ever get that up and running as we have not heard from you in 2 weeks.
February 14th, 2010, 02:57 PM
Chuck, I've been so busy I've not had a chance to do anything with it yet.
Just downloading all the files again and will give it another go and I'll let you know how I get on.
February 14th, 2010, 02:59 PM
When I try to access the admin page at the end of the install all I get is the white screen.
Checked all the paths and they seem OK.
Will I need to import all the images from vBgallery before it works correctly?
February 14th, 2010, 06:41 PM
You will need to import vbgallery content if you want your vbgallery images cats etc in photopost pro sure.
As far as a white page I would suggest you read number 2 on our vb FAQ
February 14th, 2010, 06:57 PM
Tried everything that I can do Chuck and it's still not working.
Will just need to use the vB default albums from now on.
February 14th, 2010, 07:22 PM
what do you mean its not working?
Your installing Photopost pro right
This is what it looks like in a vb4
A community photo gallery - ReefTalk Gallery (http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery).
If you have an issue and your trying to get some support you need to list a url the errors your getting etc etc so someone can actually say hey this is whats wrong do this.
This is what you should be doing.
1. Download Photopost Pro 7.01 and following the install instructions here
PhotoPost PHP Photo Sharing Photo Gallery Installation Guide (http://www.photopost.com/installphp.html)
2. When your done you should have a working empty photopost pro gallery. If not the FAQ thread should assist you. For instance if you have a white page usually that means on the last step of install you did not specify the correct path to vb forum. You can rerun install and input the correct into or edit the vbpath line in the config-int.php file. If it still does not load try setting all 3 vb3 define lines to off. Do you see something then viewing the index?
3. After your install you can use this import script to import your vbgallery content to photopost pro

I've tried it again and changed some paths/url's but I'm still getting the white screen, I know it's something I'm doing but I just don't know what???
Everything is pointing to my vB4 clone site in the config's on a separate database from my live vB3 forum. But if I put in the photopost url for it, it shows up?
Main Index - My Photo Gallery (http://www.canon-fodder-forums.com/photopost)
If I try it for my vB4 forum it's still the blank screen, and all files point to this one.

Looks fine to me I see it without any problems
February 15th, 2010, 04:57 PM
You can see the vB4 version?
Why do you think I can't?
February 15th, 2010, 05:00 PM
Just checked it on my laptop, and guess what, I can see it :)
Is it something to do with the cookies on my PC?
February 15th, 2010, 05:14 PM
I dont know what plugins do you have running?
You can try clearing your browser cache.
February 15th, 2010, 05:19 PM
That worked a treat Chuck, thank you very much!
One last question, if I import the images on my vb4 site it won't change anything on my live vb3 site, will it?
February 15th, 2010, 05:49 PM
Another one, when I access the admin for Photopost, if I click on one of the options on the left side all I get is a view of my site.
February 15th, 2010, 06:13 PM
Not if you do not delete anything from your vb3 site
Not sure what you mean about your admin. If you click an option in the left frame your center frame should load the options. what exactly is happening. I dont know what it loads my site means?
February 15th, 2010, 06:16 PM
It brings up the forum page of the vB4 site.
February 15th, 2010, 06:19 PM
Are you using any plugins in vb4? Any type of htaccess redirection?
February 15th, 2010, 06:23 PM
I've got vbseo installed and this shows up on the right side when I look at users online, it shows 'vbseo' on the far right of my name.
February 15th, 2010, 06:34 PM
If you turn off vbseo is your photopost admin panel fine?
have you made sure in your vbseo control panel you set that your photopost directory DOES NOT get touched by VBSEO?
February 15th, 2010, 06:47 PM
No it was still the same.
When I was setting Photopost the auto url/paths were pointing to vbseo but i changed them to suit Photopost.
Where and how in the vbseo CP would I do that?
February 15th, 2010, 07:07 PM
Okay so you think your urls are messed up? Is everything else working?
I cant tell you where to set anything in vbseo I dont own that product ;)
I just know supposedly there is a section where you can set directory names for vbseo not to mess with.
February 15th, 2010, 07:09 PM
Your issue is your setting your photopost main directory as this
where it should be this
Canon Fodder Forums - Canon Fodder Forums (http://www.canon-fodder-forums.com/testvb4)
You will either have to fix that directly in the database or reinstall correctly
February 18th, 2010, 12:50 PM
The guys over at vBseo got it sorted, was a wrong path/url like you said Chuck.
Thanks for all your help.
Just need to import all the images now  I feel another thread coming on :D
February 18th, 2010, 12:52 PM
Glad your sorted let me know if you need anything else.
February 18th, 2010, 01:15 PM
How or where do I start the importer Chuck :o
February 18th, 2010, 01:16 PM
The importer for vbgallery to photopost pro is found here along with instructions
February 18th, 2010, 05:22 PM
Chuck can you enlighten me to what I should use as a URL in the browser for the importer?
February 18th, 2010, 07:32 PM
It would be the vbag.php file you upload to your photopost directory
Your vbag.cnf.php file as noted in the instructions must be 777
February 19th, 2010, 07:40 AM
Chuck I get this when I try to import
Importing 2 Categories.... please wait
INSERT INTO bb_categories (`id`, `catname`, `description`, `catorder`, `thumbs`, `parent`, `lastpost`, `lastphoto`, `photos`, `posts`, `password`, `cattype`) VALUES (, '', 'Individual user galleries - any photo category', '', 'no', '0', '', '', '', '', '', 'c')
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ' '', 'Individual user galleries - any photo category', '', 'no', '0', '', '', ''' at line 1
Should I open another thread for this?
February 19th, 2010, 09:50 AM
You can send site information through the contact link.
I would be interested to know why your category id is empty?

I changed my table prefix to just ppgal_ and I now get this.
Importing 39 Categories.... please wait
Importing Main Category (1)
INSERT INTO ppgal_categories (`id`, `catname`, `description`, `catorder`, `thumbs`, `parent`, `lastpost`, `lastphoto`, `photos`, `posts`, `password`, `cattype`) VALUES (1, 'Main Category', '', '', 'no', '0', '0', '0', '0', '0', '', 'c')
Unknown column 'id' in 'field list'
February 19th, 2010, 03:06 PM
thats the wrong table prefix for photopost
Photopost should be pp_
vbGallery is ppgal_
February 19th, 2010, 04:55 PM
When I put pp_ in he photopost section I get this error.
Importing 39 Categories.... please wait
Importing Main Category (1)
INSERT INTO pp_categories (`id`, `catname`, `description`, `catorder`, `thumbs`, `parent`, `lastpost`, `lastphoto`, `photos`, `posts`, `password`, `cattype`) VALUES (1, 'Main Category', '', '', 'no', '0', '0', '0', '0', '0', '', 'c')
Table 'canonfodd2.pp_categories' doesn't exist
February 19th, 2010, 05:47 PM
The important point on the import is using the proper information so an import can be successful
I stated pp_ because in a normal photopost install that is our table prefix. Now yours is bb_
Once I do that you get a successful import because you already discovered your vbgallery prefix of ppgal_ ;)

Chuck your a star mate. You must get a bit PO with all the posts saying things don't work when all the time it just the user input :)
February 19th, 2010, 06:12 PM
Well no its all good. ;) Lets face it 98% of product support is always guiding users down the right path. Only 2% or less are actual true bug issues.
February 19th, 2010, 06:20 PM
Your a good man Chuck with the penitence of a saint ;)

are we talking about photopost here?

when I check members galleries it doesn't show any but all members galleries are pointing to the user Bob?
February 19th, 2010, 07:16 PM
Member Galleries - My Photo Gallery (http://www.canon-fodder-forums.com/testvb4/photopost/showmembers.php?cat=500)
I dont see any issues with members galleries
February 19th, 2010, 08:17 PM
If I click on 'My Albums' it doesn't show anything and if I click on another members album it shows Home>>Member>>Bob>>xxxx when it should show the member that actually opened the category.
If I click on Bob it shows all albums are related to this user?
February 19th, 2010, 08:40 PM
That would be INCORRECT
You dont have anything under my albums because you dont have any personal albums
If you view someone elses album then the breadcrumb is going to show the album user your in not your name.
February 19th, 2010, 08:43 PM
On vBgallery I had Scotland & England as albums, weren't they brought over to photopost?
February 19th, 2010, 09:36 PM
All albums - My Photo Gallery (http://www.canon-fodder-forums.com/testvb4/photopost/misc.php?action=showalbums)
albums are shown specifically under each user and on the albums index

Chuck I'm in the middle of updating my live forum to vb4. I've got photopost installed and everything seems fine except images aren't being imported. While importing it says it's deleting them from the database.
Need your help again!
March 7th, 2010, 05:14 PM
Not really sure what you mean. No import scripts delete anything at all EVER.
what script are you referring to and what error do you recieve where?
March 7th, 2010, 05:18 PM
Everything works up until I try to rebuild medium images, then it says the images are being deleted with wrong path showing which I've sorted but it still stays the same from the database.
March 7th, 2010, 05:23 PM
well if you have wrong paths as stated then it will delete stuff
You need to ensure that your server paths are absolutely correct in global options and storage options in photopost admin.
Have you checked this.
March 7th, 2010, 05:36 PM
The storage paths were wrong, I changed them to the Photopost data paths but it said it was deleting them again.
March 7th, 2010, 06:02 PM
Chuck could you have a look at it for me again please. If you don't have my details I can send then again.
March 7th, 2010, 07:48 PM
You would need to send details again as I deal with lots of sites daily ;)
March 7th, 2010, 08:05 PM
That's them sent Chuck.
March 7th, 2010, 08:22 PM
March 7th, 2010, 08:41 PM
same thing once again all your paths and urls where incorrect ;)
March 7th, 2010, 08:49 PM
Chuck your some man :)
March 7th, 2010, 08:56 PM
yeah for some reason you put public_html in all your urls and your server path on the import script you left off the opening slash
