Having trouble getting past step 3
Start with the simple
When it asks for PhotoPost Database Host
What specifically do I put in here the full address to the site? do I leave at localhost need some clues here I have tried a buch of things but nothing seems to work. Of course the problem could be in another area but i want to make sure i have this right first.
Project Boat Zen - Project boat zen home (http://www.projectboat.info)

You would simply put the correct database host username password and database name for your specific site.
If your installing into vb database you can open your vb config file in there includes directory to get the database info.
January 3rd, 2010, 03:35 PM
Hi thanks I have all that info but it will not work so i want to take it 1 line at a time starting with exactly what it wants when it asks "PhotoPost Database Host" do i put in Project Boat Zen - Project boat zen home (http://www.projectboat.info), do add to the the directory or what?
once I get this line right I will go from there
I have set up the databases the same way i did when installing vb4 it worked for that but i can can photopost to work
So 1 line at a time
January 3rd, 2010, 03:48 PM
Ok seems it took that with localhost but would not use the database i setup instead it likes the database for vb4 which I guess is ok
January 3rd, 2010, 04:21 PM
ok this is not going well is there a way to get help in a more private fashion? I am getting errors when trying to open header-inc.php and there is no sign of photopost on my site. I knew I did not want to use the forum databases. Do you have a ticket system i do not see any?
January 3rd, 2010, 05:45 PM
You can use the contact us in the site header to send site info but I would suggest you read this first if your getting header-inc.php issue
January 5th, 2010, 10:19 AM
Ok I had an error like #2 in your suggestions found that problem now when i go to index-inc.php I get a blank screen, nothing no errors no anything? Got any clues?
January 5th, 2010, 11:17 AM
there is no index-inc.php file so not sure what your trying to say.
January 5th, 2010, 01:49 PM
Sorry thats what i get for typing and talking on the phone at the same time it is the header-inc.php the next step in the installation, i go to that and get a blank page not a clue.
January 5th, 2010, 02:25 PM
header include is not the next step in an install. The install is contained in the actual install script which needs to be ran to completion correctly.
what is the url to your gallery?
January 5th, 2010, 03:26 PM
Not sure where i got the ting about the header bit i read that somewhere and got suck on the
Now I cannot get past
Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in ...................................... on line 32
Warning: mysql_fetch_row(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in ......................................... on line 4047
I have tried everything
If I change any of the database info in the first part it does not get to part 4 and I put in exactly the prefix that is in the config-inc file
I do not want to post the location of my files in a public forum. i just had another board hacked in infected with malware and do not want to go thru that again.
I'm at a loss can't seem to get past this every time i do a rerun of the install I have to delete the database and reinstall or I get like 2 pages of errors in step 3
need some more clues i am sure it is something simple missed
I read the common errors thing you sent and looked for all that
Is this a bug with VB4 and your soft?
January 5th, 2010, 03:56 PM
Seems to be working now and this is the part that has me banging my head on the desk
on the very last page of the install on the first line it asks for the site location of the forum, the install defaults to putting this under the photopost dir as in ###/photopost/forum which is wrong because the forum is not a sub of pp
So i have been changing that to the correct location
I decided to let it use the default which i knew would not work because i missed that it was changing this on me before and it would not work before
so this time using the default it once again did not work
So I changed it back to EXACTLY what it was before
now it works
Why now and not before i do not have a clue. I am guessing something was being reset by the install routine that I could not control
January 5th, 2010, 04:15 PM
wayne on install all we can do is suggest paths its up to you to place the correct one ;)
January 5th, 2010, 04:22 PM
oh i understand not sure what the problem was the paths were correct i only checked them 50 times, so time to move on
I can get to the admin panel but no sign of pp on the web site no idea how to turn it on?
your install instructions run out at this point
Need more clues as to what to do next
A very frustrated
January 5th, 2010, 04:51 PM
I have repeatedly asked where the gallery install is at?
I need to see where your at.
January 5th, 2010, 05:36 PM
I'm sorry but reviewing this thread you asked for that information once to which i responded that I am not comfortable posting that information on a public forum. If you will tell me just what you need I can email or PM that information to you. Please do not lose patience with me for seeking assistance in this installation. The software documentation is only a single page for what appears to be a complicated install. I am doing my best here and frankly think i am doing rather well as i have solved most my problems to this point largely on my own. I am not trying to be a jerk here although I confess a level of frustration at the difficulty of this process and perhaps that is coming through in these communications. I apologize for that.
January 5th, 2010, 08:11 PM
To pass along details you dont want public you can follow the advise in post 6. Thats the first time I asked for site details. ;) Essentially it is very hard to assist anyone when all you can say is it doesnt work. The only real definable issue you posted about I did respond to with a link. So really I need to see your site to respond further. The install works 30000 customers cant be wrong.
January 6th, 2010, 07:24 AM
What information exactly do you need? the web site address? the paths to photopost? the paths to the forum? password? I will send what you need via email.
Like I said in #14 I have set up photopost, got as far as being able to get into the admin panel, I then checked paths in that. So Far everything seems ok
Now I need to know how to get it to work with VB4, what do I need to do to get it to show up in the forum, I have gone through the documentation but have not found anything there. it is possible I missed something.
I thought I had asked specific questions and gave as much information as possible in my requests for help, I am sincerely trying to learn something here and did not think I was just whining it does not work.
So the point I am at is the software is installed, the admin panel works and I have adjusted paths in that so that everything seems ok with that. I need to know how to get phoptpost to show up in the forum. Let me know what information you need from me and I will send it to you.
January 6th, 2010, 07:57 AM
well the information needed to generally provide support is stickied here in this very forum
The problem I see it started happening about two years ago people just stop giving site names etc so its hard to provide any kind of support when your flying blind and it takes 5 times as long to answer someone to really know what they are talking about when seeing is worth 1000 words. ;)
For example all these messages back and forth and finally I see you say photopost is not showing up on your forum. Well simple answer is photopost is not suppose to show when your on your forum. Photopost is suppose to show up when your on your photopost. These are separate full featured applications.
You kept telling us photopost is not showing up but you said you fixed your path errors so we assumed here that your photopost does not show when you go to your photopost
Thats why I am confused you will place a link to your site here but not to your gallery?
Thats what I am trying to see if your actually operational. If your gallery is operational and you can get to it and use it you could possibly try using this vb plugin to show some gallery content on your forum but thats something outside our core program
I hope this clarifies the issue as it now finally appears you do not have any install issues.
January 6th, 2010, 08:38 AM
I really am sorry I am very confused and you and I seem to be having problems communicating. I promise you I am not trying to be difficult here or be belligerent. Honestly I am just trying to figure this out but I guess part of my problem is I do not know what I am looking for as there does not seem to be any documentation to guild me.
Ok and correct me if I am wrong but I thought photopost worked within the forum I see this on other sites. Are you saying it is a stand alone product and I have to provide a link to it from within the forum?
I'm sorry I really do not understand Like I said I set photo post up went to the admin panel and adjusted the settings there but now what? I simply do not know what to do next?
The site is www. projectboatzen.com
I will email you the full server info
honestly I am not trying to be difficult here or be an ass but I get the feeling you think I am. I am trying to understand this. I am new to this stuff and do not have the knowledge you do.
So I guess I do need to see if the gallery is operational but how do I do that? Like I said I do not know what to do next after setting up the admin panel, is there a galley to go to now and if so how do I do that.
The link you sent www.projectboatzen/gallery does not work is that what i am supposed to be trying to get to work? there is no such directory on my site should there be?
This is why I asked for clues I am working in the dark i followed the instruction in the install info but then came to a end I just need to know what i am supposed to do next.
Like I say I am honestly not trying to be difficult I am just trying to get some help with this. We just seem to be having trouble understanding each other here. I am trying
January 6th, 2010, 09:02 AM
Wayne nope dont think your being difficult in any way ;)
I just merely need my questions answered to be able to assist you. I dont think you want to go round and round here anymore than I do. We are on post 21 and I think we went all the way to post 18 till we come to I believe the hard of this issue is you expect your gallery to show up on your forum.
If you have installed the gallery correctly you should have something that looks like this
A community photo gallery - ReefTalk Gallery (http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery)
The 64 million dollar question here is where have you installed the photopost gallery.
Our application uses the vb3 header footer style and login for an integrated look. It does not mean content is suppose to show in your forum because quite simply that means you need to alter forum scripting which we have no control over we dont write vbulletin.
Now my last post linked a plugin you can install into vb to show some gallery content on your forum. That above and beyond any base code. Thats not really part of the gallery.
January 6th, 2010, 09:23 AM
chuck yes the link you provided is something like what I was expecting. So when I do not see that I think something is wrong, Now I may be wrong like I say there is no info to tell me what I should or should not see. That is part of the problem for me.
"The 64 million dollar question here is where have you installed the photopost gallery."
Phohtopost is installed in /photopost on my site, is this different from the gallery? I did not see anything about installing a gallery? maybe I missed that if so I would think that is now my next step
basically if you were installing I need to know what you would do
Step 1 run install
step 2 set up admin panel
step 3 ???
See what I mean. I would just pay to have this done but the truth is I want to learn how to do this I am a chronic do it yourselfer and like to learn new things. I also want to be able to fix it if it breaks
January 6th, 2010, 09:41 AM
step 3 upload photos ;)
I have already tried there I dont see photopost installed so this remains the 64 million dollar question where are you installing our application?
January 6th, 2010, 10:02 AM
I emailed the full link to you
how do I upload the photos? and where do I upload them to. I could FPT them to the site but I don't think that is what you are talking about, and I do not see anything in the admin panel to upload photos
January 6th, 2010, 10:11 AM
A community photo gallery - My Photo Gallery (http://www.projectboatzen.com/Photopost/)
Okay there is absolutely nothing wrong with your gallery it is installed. As long as you installed properly with proper file directory permissions etc you should be ok.
1. Login to vb.
2. Go to photopost admin panel you will see the admin link on the photopost menubar when viewing your gallery above.
3. Setup your category set usergroup permissions etc
4. You should see a upload link on your photopost menubar when viewing the actual gallery so upload some photos ;)
Thats about the size of things. Now as previously posted nothing from photopost by default is suppose to show on your forum. We dont write vbulletin and dont alter vb code. Now you can install this vb plugin following these instructions to show gallery content on your forum. I wrote that up for customers to use if they want.
Now see now that I have a link to your gallery its much easier.
January 6th, 2010, 10:26 AM
Ok and that was the key bit of information I was lacking were to go after the admin page.
I understand you can not help with the further integration but now that I have gotten this far I think I can deal with or at least bother someone else
January 6th, 2010, 10:30 AM
The plugin I linked should be what you want. ;)
January 6th, 2010, 11:26 AM
Thanks i downloaded the zip file but think i will take a break before hitting that one.
By the way i like some of the things you have done on your site, looks good.
January 6th, 2010, 11:30 AM
Thanks thats pretty much a stock site except the plugin stuff to show gallery stuff on forum
