View Full Version : Help?! Error? What did I do wrong?
October 23rd, 2009, 01:24 AM
I am in the installation process of my photopost and received the following error:
"Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /home/content/a/d/m/adminbfp/html/gallery/photopost623/install.php on line 570
I cannot connect to the PhotoPost MySQL server. [host:$host][mysql_user:$mysql_user][mysql_password:$mysql_password]. Check your config-inc.php for the correct settings and rerun.
And ideas on what I need to do to fix this?
Im a newbie and this is like the final step that I need to do before letting my website go live.

Are you sure you have entered the correct information to connect to mysql in the config portion of the install?
Url to site or you can email details to sales at photopost dot com.

Well, it turns out that I had the wrong hostname on that one but when I was able to proceed further, I now have a new error:
"We're sorry, but we encountered an error during the installation process...
Could not connect to or create the PhotoPost database.
Be sure your user has permissions to CREATE or create a blank table before hitting REFRESH or go back to Step 1 to check your database settings.
If you have corrected the error, you may hit GO BACK and try again."
Is this a permissions error or something else?

You need to make sure that you have mysql permissions to create the photopost database.
It would appear you do not. Either go back and edit the mysql user permissions on your server or try actually creating the actual database. On most host setups you need to create the database and create and assign user permissions. At least thats how its done on cpanel and plesk setups.

Thanks for your patience Chuck, Im completely self-taught so some of these concepts are brand new for me.
Lemme see if I can make sense of this:
I DO have an sql database created on my server entitled "gallery". I have checked the config file and all paths and passwords are correct.
Am I understanding you right that I need to edit the permissions on the gallery database? At this time the permissions show "web visible" (Im using Godaddy - I know, I know *cringe*). Is that what I need to be editing or is there something Im missing?
Again, thanks for all your patience.

well the error you get tells me something is wrong with permissions. It states the database name your saying does not exist and you dont have permission to create the new one
Its a basic mysql error reported back from the server.

Apparently there is some issue with GoDaddy. I have read multiple accounts of people who say that they cant do a chmod or add a temporary table with GoDaddy.
I have sent a request to them for support.
Do the permissions need to be 'Write' or 'Execute'?

I have had no issues with godaddy but that I guess depends on your specific setup.
Our permissions etc need to be as set here

Houston we have liftoff!
Ok, so after pulling my hair out for about 20 hours and multiple screaming sessions, I have FINALLY figured out the problem.
Basically, Im an idiot. I had an incorrect name in a section this ENTIRE time that was preventing me from connecting.
Hey, I guess every newbie has to make a few mistakes, eh?
Thanks for all of your help Chuck, I appreciate the great customer service here!

Yep hense I kept posting over and over your information is wrong recheck. ;)
Mysql errors like that are reported directly back they are quite literal so no room for interpretation.
